Want to bring hands-on restoration education to your classroom or afterschool or summer program?  Become a Billion Oyster Project Teacher Fellow!

We're now accepting applications to join our third cohort of Billion Oyster Project Teacher Fellows, including afterschool and summer program educators!   The BOP Curriculum and Community Enterprise for Restoration Science (BOP-CCERS) aims to improve STEM education in public schools by linking teaching and learning to ecosystem restoration in New York Harbor and engaging students in hands-on environmental field science during their regular school day.  The core pillar of the project is the BOP-CCERS Teacher Fellowship, an intensive in field science education and marine STEM for New York City teachers and students.  Through this two year fellowship, we provide curriculum, technical support, equipment, and funding to implement the Billion Oyster Project in the classroom and the field.

As a BOP Teacher Fellow, you'll establish an Oyster Restoration Station (ORS) in New York Harbor, conduct four monitoring expeditions per year to the ORS, attend professional developments and field trainings, and prepare your students to present original research at the annual Billion Oyster Project Research Symposium.

The Fellowship is open to NYC DoE middle school (grades 6-8) teachers, with a preference for those working in program wide Title I funded schools. The fellowship is also open to a limited number of afterschool and summer camp educators working in DYCD funded programs.  Financial support includes up to $3000 per year for fellows in individual stipends and up to $2000 per year for schools or programs to cover project related expenses.

Click here to apply now!  Applications are due December 1, 2016 at 5pm.  Want to see more of what we do?  Check out our blog posts and visit our Tumblr!
