ERIC H. KEARNEY President & CEO GREATER CINCINNATI NORTHERN KENTUCKY AFRICAN-AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Eric H. Kearney is the President/CEO of the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce. He has had a career in law, business, and politics. As a state senator, Eric served as Ohio Senate Minority Leader. He championed a number of causes including adoption, children’s health, small business development, and pension reform. Annually, he led a 107-mile walk from Cincinnati to Columbus to highlight an important children’s health issue. In 2014, he walked the entire State of Ohio, starting at Lake Erie and in Cincinnati at the Ohio River. He passed a number of impactful bills. For instance, he sponsored bills to: make February Black History Month in Ohio, create an adoption loan program, fight childhood obesity, establish Adoption Day in Ohio, reform Ohio’s pension system, and create Ohio’s Poet Laureate. On a national level, Eric was a member of President Barack Obama’s national finance committee when he ran for U.S. Senate and President.
Eric has been a leader in Ohio’s legal community. Eric is managing partner of Kearney & Kearney, LPA. He has six reported cases and authored a law review article, An Analysis of Election Day Error in Ohio’s 2012 General Election, 62 Cleve St. Law Rev. 279 (2014). He was one of the first African Americans to become a partner in one of Cincinnati’s major law firms. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and before the United States Supreme Court. He serves as Special Master/Trustee of the $20 Million Fernald II Settlement Fund in the United States District Court. That Settlement was one of the first of its kind in the nation providing medical examinations for injured works and processing cash payments.
In addition to politics and law, Eric has been a leader in the business community. He founded and built one of the largest African American owned publishing companies, Sesh Communications, which publishes The Cincinnati Herald, The Northern Kentucky Herald, The Dayton Defender, and other publications. Eric has served on some of Cincinnati’s most prestigious civic and community boards. He serves on the boards of: Cincinnati Art Museum, the Andrew Jergens Foundation, and University Club of Cincinnati.
Eric graduated from St. Xavier High School, earned a B.A. in English from Dartmouth College. He is married to Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney Esq. who is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. They have two children, Celeste (a student at Dartmouth College) and Asher. In 2004 the Kearney family was honored as the Black Family Reunion’s “Family of the Year.”

Hands-On Service at Ronald McDonald House - Tuesday, November 15, 2016 Through the combined efforts of our Club's volunteers and our Foundation, Cincinnati Rotary sponsors three dinners each year at Cincinnati's Ronald McDonald House. Our next dinner service at RMH is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., for food prep, serving the guest families, and clean-up afterwards. Come early (4:00-6:00 p.m.) or come later (6:00-8:00 p.m.) or work the whole time. It's a great opportunity for those of you who have not yet experienced how wonderfully unique our Ronald McDonald House is. District Point Match of 50,000 Points to Support the RI Foundation At Trilogy on September 7, 2016, the District Rotary Foundation Chair announced that the District will match contributions made to the RI Foundation from now until November 30, 2016. The District is delighted to be able to make this match once again this year. It is especially timely in view of our Centennial for the RI Foundation. The total point match will be 50,000. For a new Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) with no prior contribution, a $500 donation to the RI Foundation and a point match of 500, will result in a PHF award. The minimum match is 100 points for $100. Member Annual Meeting - Ratification of Slate of Board/Officer Candidates President Jack Scott opened the Rotary Club of Cincinnati's annual membership meeting last Thursday, October 27, 2016. The sole agenda item was the ratification of the slate of officers and board member candidates as approved at the October 13, 2016, Board of Directors meeting. As a brief review of the process, many members were nominated from several sources and considered by the Nominating Committee for all the open positions. After considerable discussion and vetting, a candidate slate was determined and presented to the Board of Directors for approval. This year's nominating committee was comprised of Bud Dornette, Immediate Past President; Jack Scott, President; Al Koncius, President-Elect; Heather Hawkins, Club Member; Bill Henrich, Past President; Julie Poyer, Club Board Member; and Richard La Jeunesse, Past President.
A motion was made to approve the following slate of nominees: Board of Directors for a three year term beginning July 1, 2017: Janet Burns, Drew Emmert and Bryan Vielhauer. Secretary Treasurer, Dave Carlin; President, Al Koncius; and serving as President-Elect beginning July 1, 2017, and President on July 1, 2018, is Rick Flynn. The motion was seconded and approved by a voice vote of the members.
Condon School Holiday Party &Angel Gift Tree The Condon School Holiday Party will be Tuesday, December 6, 2016, 12:30-3:00 p.m. The Angel Gift Tree will be available November 3rd, 10th & 17th at the Rotary meetings and wrapped gifts need to be returned to the Rotary Office by Wednesday, November 23rd.
