Shorenstein APARC scholars discuss US Asia policy challenges Despite tremendous gains over the past two decades, the Asia-Pacific region is now grappling with varied effects of globalization, and security issues remain. Seven scholars offer views on policy challenges and possible directions for U.S.-Asia relations during the next U.S. administration.
Evaluating Japan's monetary policy assessment In a commentary piece for Nikkei Shimbun, Takeo Hoshi examines the Bank of Japan's assessment of the Quantitative and Qualitative Monetary Easing (QQE) published on Sept. 21. The piece is available in English and Japanese on the Shorenstein APARC website.
Navy Secretary speaks on US maritime partnerships in Asia In a visit to Shorenstein APARC, U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus offered insight into how the Navy and Marine Corps approach today's security environment in the Asia-Pacific region, including issues related to the South China Sea.
Corporate Affiliates Program welcomes 2016-17 fellows Shorenstein APARC welcomes a new class of fellows from China, Japan and India for the academic year at Stanford. They are researching a range of areas from fossil fuel alternatives to the financial systems of Asia's developing economies.
Publications
Parting Reflections and Observations on American Foreign Policy (Shorenstein APARC) is a collection of lectures delivered by Ambassador Stephen W. Bosworth, the 2014 Payne Distinguished Lecturer. Bosworth, who passed away in January 2016, held a long career in public service and academia.
Internationalizing Higher Education in Korea edited by Yeon Cheon Oh, Gi-Wook Shin and Rennie J. Moon (Shorenstein APARC) explores the internationalization of higher education in South Korea, as well as innovative, policy-relevant solutions for Asian countries undergoing similar challenges.
