Hi! My name is Rachel, and I’m the Director of Community Engagement at Mitzvah Circle Foundation.
I first walked into MCF as a volunteer four years ago. Little did I know I’d end up working here.
Prior to joining Mitzvah Circle Foundation, I worked for an online guide to schools, a community dispute resolution center, and as a grantmaker for the Open Society Institute.
My background and experience with nonprofits prompted me to help Fran Held, our founder and executive director, compose Mitzvah Circle Foundation’s first grant proposal, and it was approved!
After that, I started volunteering regularly and became the first paid employee in 2015.
I now spend my time developing relationships with partner organizations that refer people to us and receive items from us, coordinating groups of volunteers and our Teen Ambassador Program, managing fundraising events and grant writing.
I also organize service opportunities for individual volunteers and corporate, business and community groups who give us their time and energy.
Building a circle of support within our communities not only makes our work possible, but brings Mitzvah Circle Foundation’s unique hands-on volunteer opportunities to more and more people.
In addition to my behind-the-scenes work, I can also be found helping to lead volunteers and manage warehouse inventory with our Volunteer and Warehouse Coordinator, Monica.
Every day, I have the chance to help improve lives.
When new volunteers and donors walk into our warehouse, I love to show them how the items and time they donate makes a direct impact in people’s lives by helping break the cycle of poverty.
Although each day is different and may be challenging, my job is consistently rewarding and uplifting.
And that’s what keeps me coming back.
