We’re sure your calendar is already packed full of exciting pre-Christmas social events (and maybe you’ll squeeze in some work too if you find the time!) and we hope one of those events is our ECL Christmas Party on Thursday 8 December at Aquila Caffe Bar. If you’ve been to our Christmas parties in previous years, you’ll know it’s an event not-to-be-missed so register now to secure your spot!

This month we’re looking forward to the Conveyancing Conference which will be held on Friday 25 November. This year’s program boasts a wide range of topics presented by experts in the field, so be sure to get your tickets now as registration closes soon.

Our Essentials workshop on 23 November deals with the ins and outs of testamentary trusts and has been specifically designed for early career lawyers. It’s an ideal opportunity to gain practical knowledge on the fundamental issues relating to the attributes, creation and use of testamentary trusts and those in attendance will receive 3 CPD points.

We’ve also have lots of exciting events planned for ECLs in 2017 so be sure to keep an eye out for details in the new year.

All the best

Core CPD Webinar: Costs Fundamentals – Clarity for Clients

Tuesday 29 November 2016, 12.30-1.30pm, online

The retainer is the centerpiece of the solicitor/client relationship, and can set both the scope and spirit of that relationship. Constructed properly, a retainer can lay the foundation for a positive, long-term and mutually beneficial association; get it wrong, however, and it will become the focus of a protracted dispute over costs.

Presented by Shane Budden, Ethics Solicitor, QLS Ethics Centre, this core webinar covers the necessities involved in developing a transparent and thorough cost retainer that will support a positive and on-going relationship with your client. The webinar will cover the importance of a retainer, fundamental requirements for disclosure, ongoing costs disclosure obligations, what happens when the scope of the work changes during the matter and amending the client agreement. The retainer is more than a price list, it is the first step on the journey with your client; ensure you get it right.
