Objection Letters on Planning Portal Not Visible?
Roger received an email from a resident asking why their objections are not being made public on the planning portal when they must be available by law, for public inspection.

Response from Roger:
I‘ve had a formal response from planning and as I said, it’s across the board and should not be taken personally. There have also been issues with what people have been writing and it then being visible to all.

Formal response:
Further to your enquiry regarding the removal of neighbour representations from the Planning Website.  Under Data Protection legislation the Council has a duty to ensure that any information published on their website does not contain information that breaches the Data Protection principles.

Due to the high number of representations received by the Planning Department redaction of information takes a significant amount of time and the Council no longer has sufficient resources to continue to redact the information to ensure it complies with Data Protection principles.  As such the information has been removed and copies can be requested by way of a Freedom of Information request.

Poor Lighting on Footpath between Warwick Road and Asthill Grove
A resident contacted Roger about the poor lighting on the footpath between Warwick Road and Asthill Grove.

As a consequence a lighting level check was carried out by Balfour Beatty.  They reported that:
2 out of the 6 readings taken along the footpath (0.30 lux and 0.58 lux) are lower than the Street Lighting PFI Contract required levels.  These lower readings are due to the private trees from the grounds of Aragon House blocking the light.  These private trees will require pruning in order to enable the required light distribution and lighting levels on this section of the  footpath to be achieved.

Revisions to Residents' Parking Policy
The agenda for Communities and Neighbourhoods Scrutiny Board, Wednesday, 16th November, 2016, 2.00 pm has just been published. One of the items on the agenda is Revisions to Residents' Parking Policy. Meeting venue: Diamond Room 2 - Council House
Agenda details are here

Double Yellow Lines for Junction Protection
Proposed changes to waiting restrictions are due to be advertised later this month. The council will be writing to local residents who will be directly affected when the advertisement is published. Notices will also be placed on street.

Humphrey Burton’s Road/Stoney Road/Asthill Grove/Orchard Crescent – Installation of ‘No Parking on the Footway’ restriction along the full length of Humphrey Burton’s Road, Asthill Grove and Orchard Crescent and on Stoney Road from Humphrey Burton’s Road to the railway bridge to prevent parked vehicles obstructing the footway.

The council will be writing to local residents who will be directly affected when the advertisement is published later this month. Notices will also be placed on street.

New Tiverton School Update
From the "New Tiverton Delivery Team" for Coventry City Council which consists of Council Officers, the designers and also the builders:

Progress is ongoing, nothing further to add this week

Whitley Common - Football Pitches
Many residents have been complaining about the litter left by the Sunday league football teams on a Sunday morning. A local resident contacted the Sunday league without success so Roger has now contacted council officers.
Dear Ann

We seem to have a rubbish problem on the football pitches and to be honest, have done for a while. It only happens after the games have been played over the weekend, rubbish being left by those watching or taking part.

While inspecting it this morning, I bumped into a Street Pride worker who was doing a fantastic job clearing up as much as he can, so special thank you to him.

Can we find a long term solution as we get a lot of complaints about this and have tried to deal with them in the past, but clearly to no avail.

Response from Samantha Morris, Streetpride South
Good Morning Cllr Bailey

I understand that Ann was due to meet with Football Contacts last week.

I have asked our Sports Marking Team (Kevin and Allan) to monitor the situation and take photos of any waste left behind so that it can be followed up by Ann if necessary.

Removal of Phone Box from Tonbridge Road/ London Road
Notification has been received from British Telecom that the telephone kiosk at the corner of Tonbridge Road and London Road has been identified for removal. Notices have been placed in the kiosk.

This link will take you to the consultation details.

Any comments received will be considered as part of the notification response and may be passed to the service provider. Comments will be required on or before 24th November 2016

Traffic Lights - JLR Bridge
On Monday residents contacted Roger to say that the traffic lights on the JLR Bridge were out of action.

Response from Thalia Hobson, Traffic Systems Technician
The traffic lights at A444 near Whitley (Jaguar) are now back on and working.

They were off due to a power supply issue, by Western Power.

Cheylesmore Library Volunteers
The volunteer’s meeting last week was well attended by council officers, Roger & his fellow councillors and volunteers, with many questions being answered.

However no decisions can be made because the council is still in a consultation phase:
  • Have your say about the library by completing their survey.  Read more
  • Attend the Connecting Communities at Cheylesmore Community Centre on Tuesday 15th November 3pm – 5.30pm - This will be a joint discussion about the library & family hub. Ideally families, young people & library users will attend. Visit the website
If you are interested in volunteering to help run the library then please email cheylesmore.ward@gmail.com

Troyes Close - Derelict Garages
Roger received this email from a resident:
In Troyes Close there is an empty space with a row of derelict garages. This space has stood empty for several years.

Not only is it an eyesore but it has been an area for cars to park up in the late/ early hours. It has become a gathering point as it is secluded out of view for ASB/ suspect behaviour.

After cars leave in the morning you are left with empty alcoholic drinks bottles and cans. I am certain this area is also used for drugs!

Naturally this is extremely concerning for all neighbours some being elderly and some young families too.

Roger has just been informed by Whitefriars that railings are to be fitted across the entrance to the site. These will be attached to the existing wall to stop anyone being able to access the area. The garages are on their list for demolition which will hopefully take place in a month’s time.

Rogue Traders in Fenside
From a resident:
Just to let you know Roger that a week or so ago in Fenside Avenue 2 con men went next door to my neighbour and said her guttering needed cleaning & flushing out. The men were both white: the younger was skinny, tall and aged late 20s; the other male was older and the van driver, stocky, chubby with short reddish brown hair.
My neighbour agreed and they were up the ladder quicker than jack flash!!
Only there a minute and don’t know what they did but charged her £70!!
Please make everyone in the area aware and vigilant of these ROGUE TRADERS.
