Renmark Paringa Council will invest in some new large inflatable water equipment (similar to equipment in picture above), which has proven successful at many other pools across the nation.
“Council expects that the new inflatable equipment will provide many hours of fun to pool users, with no additional fees to patrons”, said Tim Vonderwall, Director of Corporate and Community Services. “The new equipment is fun, modern and less expensive for patrons. Our main objective is an exciting and affordable experience, in a safe environment”.
The decision to invest in new equipment was taken after an assessment of the current slide which found it was aged and would likely need to be replaced in the near future. The slide is owned by the previous pool operators and Council will be discussing the removal of the slide with them.
Renmark Paringa Council and Belgravia Leisure, the newly appointed operators of the pool, are excited to bring some new fun elements to the Renmark Swimming Pool. Council expects that the new equipment will be available early in the New Year, and will keep the community advised as more information comes to light.

Renmark Paringa Council, in consultation with Belgravia Leisure wish to advise patrons that the Renmark outdoor swimming pool will be closed until Monday 28 November. After rigorous testing and analysis, the difficult decision to close the pool has been made due to safety concerns. The safety concerns with water clarity are as a result of unforeseen equipment failure and maintenance concerns.

Wharf closed due to high River
Due to the high River, Council has temporarily closed some of its infrastructure. The wharf and pontoon directly outside the Renmark Club has been closed since Monday 21 November to vessels to ensure that no damage is caused to either the vessel or the wharf. Council will be monitoring the River level and when it rises further the lower walkway outside the Renmark Club will be closed to pedestrians. We will ensure to keep the community informed on this issue.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but hope you understand.
Recent Community Events
Renmark Paringa Council would like to thank the community for their support and contribution to two events held over last weekend.

On Saturday 19 November the official launch of the Alan Coulter Recreation Centre was held and was attended by approx. 150 people.
Alan has been at the Recreation Centre for over 36 years and in that time has helped thousands of people either through coaching or rehabilitation.
Alan is a wonderful asset to the Renmark Paringa Community and Belgravia Leisure and Council are honored to have the Centre named after him. Alan will remain at the Centre to manage his rehabilitation programs and is assisting Belgravia Leisure to settle in at the centre.

On Sunday 20 November Paringa celebrated 100 years of Local Government at the Renmark Paringa Community Museum. The event although hot was a success and we would like to acknowledge and thank previous District Council of Paringa Staff and Elected Members for attending it and sharing their stories from their time on the Council.
To the 400+ guests who attended; it was a hot one but we hope you enjoyed it.

The Centenary would not have been possible without the great work of Russell and his team at the Renmark Paringa Community Museum. The museum looked impeccable and it was an honour to host the Centenary there. Also to Heather Everingham from Olivewood Estate who gave fantastic historical accounts on Paringa's history and assisted Council greatly in organising the event.
Thank you to Grant Schwartzkopff for attending and taking wonderful photos; they are very much appreciated.
To Renmark Rotary for a great lunch, Mick Kelly for the wonderful entertainment, CFS Paringa, Canoe the Riverland, Riverland Vintage Car Club, thank you for being a part of Paringa's celebrations.

Mosquito Control
With the onset of warmer weather, mosquito activity is expected to increase significantly over the coming weeks and months.
SA Health is warning property owners that as mosquitoes can breed where ever there is water, they need to take precautions to identify and eliminate breeding sites around their homes.
Residents should also take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing appropriate clothing and using suitable mosquito repellent.
For more information please follow this link to Council’s Mosquito Control page on our website.

Renmark Christmas Pageant Saturday 10 December
Renmark Paringa Council is proud to support the Renmark Christmas Pageant again this year.
The Pageant has changed its format for 2016 with it being held on December 10 (the second Saturday in December) and commencing at 2pm!

The Pageant Committee felt that the early start would promote local businesses and encourage community members to do their shopping on Pageant day thus supporting 'Local'. The event this year is spread out over 8 hours and caters for the whole family.
The Committee has advised that the pageant will be held on the first weekend of December 2017.

For more information of activities which the whole family can enjoy on the day visit the Renmark Christmas Pageant Facebook Page.
Recent river flow reports from the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) are advising a high flow – it is NOT a flood warning
Due to recent rainfall events and flooding across Victoria and New South Wales the flow to South Australia is predicted to increase and peak around 90 to 95 GL/day in late November to early December. As of Friday 18 November the flow was 84GL at the border.  For comparison in 1974 the peak flow at the South Australian border was around 180 GL/ day and in 2011 it was around 94 GL/day.
Now is a great time to enjoy the River Murray at its best.  However you are reminded to exercise caution at all time when using the river and seek local advice. At this flow rate, the main River Murray channel is expected to experience high flow. Operating watercraft and swimming in the main River Murray channel can be more hazardous during high flow.  Submerged objects, debris and the force of the current can present a risk to public safety.

Blackwater soon to hit the South Australian Murray
Blackwater is a natural phenomenon that can occur after heavy rainfall when organic material such as leaves and wood from floodplains is washed into waterways, resulting in low dissolved oxygen levels.  The water is blackish in appearance and has a strong unpleasant smell.
Riverland locals and visitors should be mindful that while there are no public health risks in blackwater, a small number of people may be susceptible to minor skin irritations if they come into contact with blackwater.
In the short-term blackwater is a concern, particularly when people see dead fish along the river.  However blackwater does contribute to major improvements in the long-term health of the River Murray.  The extra carbon entering the food web increases the zooplankton and macroinvertebrate communities, which is a food source for fish.

Working Bee!

Whirlpool Corner Wetland Group had a working bee on the morning of 11 November.  The aim was to remove Gazania along side of the Ramsar wetland site. It was very successful morning with 11 bags full of weeds which were filled by six people.

Big thanks to the support from community members, DEWNR Wetlands Staff and of course RBLAP.

For more information on how you can get involved, contact our Environmental Officer 'Naomi Prunckun' either by email eo@renmarkparinga.sa.gov.au or phone 8580 3000.

Photo Point Monitoring

Members of the Templeton Wetland Action Group completed photo point monitoring this month.

Due to the high water event, the photo points had to be accessed by boat. Check out the photos from the morning and the star droppers underwater. It was great to see the wetland's in such a good condition. Big thanks to Roger and Tony for their support on the day and their dedication to the wetland over the years.

Great Koala Count 2016

The second South Australian Great Koala Count will be held on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 of November, 2016.

Koalas are a common sight in many areas of South Australia, but it can be surprisingly difficult to count them! You can help to record where they are and how many there are, by counting koalas in your garden, along your street, in a park, at your school, or on your property!

For more information and to register your interest, go to the Great Koala Count webpage on Discovery CircleYou can also check out the project on FacebookFor further questions, email discoverycircle@unisa.edu.au or phone 08 8302 9999.

Australia Day Nominations
Australia’s new broadband network is right on your doorstep
The nbn™ network will give us all the opportunity to do more. Whether working or playing, learning, or just having fun, the nbn™ network will be a part of everyday life for decades to come.
The nbn™ network is rolling out across the Renmark Paringa Council area, with construction currently underway in the towns of Renmark and Paringa. It's even better news if you live outside these towns because you can connect to the nbn network now via Fixed Wireless or Sky Muster satellite and start enjoying all the benefits of fast and reliable internet. Check your home or business address at www.nbnco.com.au to see if you can connect.
Once the nbn™ network is available in Renmark and Paringa, you’ll need to move your phone and internet services to the network to make sure they continue working.  Switching to the nbn™ network isn’t automatic, so when the network is available to you, here’s what you need to do:
  • Contact a phone or internet provider
  • Ask about switching your phone or internet to the nbn™ network
  • Check your equipment compatibility
  • Choose a plan that suits your needs
For more information visit www.nbnco.com.au, call nbn on 1800 687 626 (7.30am to 7.30pm Monday to Friday) or email info@nbnco.com.au.

Five things you need to know, even if you only have a landline phone:
What’s the nbn™ network?
The nbn™ network is Australia’s exciting new landline phone and internet network designed to provide you with access to fast, reliable phone and internet services, wherever you live.
Why do we need it?
With so many connected devices now in the home and workplace, the way we access and use data has changed forever. A fast broadband network will ensure Australia is ready for the next generation of connected homes and businesses.
What do I need to do?
In most areas, once the nbn™ network is available, you’ll need to move your phone and internet services to it to make sure they continue working.  Check with your service provider to find out whether your services will be affected.
How can I get the nbn™ network?
As a wholesaler, nbn doesn’t sell directly to the public. That means once it’s in your area, you’ll need to talk to a phone or internet provider about moving your services.  Whether you’re a home, or business user, they won’t be switched over automatically. To make the switch, call a phone or internet provider and ask about moving to a plan that uses the nbn™ network.
What if I don’t make the switch?
The nbn™ network rollout affects almost all of us, with access expected to be available to 8 million homes and businesses by 2020. Most people will need to act to stay connected, even if they just have a landline phone.
Did you know that flushing disposable wipes down your toilet can cause blockages in your drains?
