In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew on Daufuskie, as we take inventory of the widespread and indiscrtiminate damages we have suffered, we find that every cloud has a silver lining. Besides the heroes of the #Daufuskie100 who rode out the storm despite the mandatory evacuation, those who retreated to higher ground and returned later were welcomed in many ways by the community. Fortunatley, no one was harmed in the storm. Haig Point suffered most of the wind, water and fallen tree damage on the island as the brunt of the storm came from the north. Remarkably, 8 days after the storm hit, power, water and sewer were restored and main roads were cleared. As members continued to return to the island, up to 100 volunteers gathered nightly to make plans for assisting their beloved club and neighbors the following day.
