Atmosphere celebrates 8 years – with a flashback
This November, Atmosphere celebrated its 8 year birthday. We are proud of the resort that initially opened as a dive resort with 20 rooms, a restaurant, bar, one pool and a dive center, now has expanded to appeal to such a variety of guests and interests. We added a Spa, then a yoga platform. We started conducting excursions and set up a kids club, and built a new second pool system. A bakery/coffee shop came next, a yoga platform in the trees and now a Tasting Room. Soon we’ll unveil a new camera room, a new entrance and a massive back-of house with warehouse, staff canteen, laundry and many more facilities that will help us run Atmosphere even better.

Octopus October in full swing at Atmosphere
Every year we boast about our Octopus and Cuttlefish season which begins in October. So far it has never disappointed us with different species of cephalopods every year taking center stage. This year has been the year of blue ringed octopus, mototi octopus and flamboyant cuttlefish. Secret Corner has been dived every day the past month and the variety of octopus never ceases to amaze us. If you are a fan of cephalopods – and honestly who isn’t – book your holiday for October or November 2017!

Spa Update
Not just one but TWO Spa award nominations
This November, The Sanctuary at Atmosphere has been nominated again in the prestigious Asia Spa Awards. This time we are nominated in two categories, “Family-Friendly Hotel/Resort of the Year” and “Destination Spa”. Soon after this Newsletter reaches you, the glamorous awards night in Hong Kong, will have taken place and the winners announced. As competition is tough with all the best Spa’s in Asia competing, we can only keep our fingers crossed.
We are also on the shortlist to receive a World Luxury Spa Award in 2017, where we are nominated for “Luxury Garden Spa” and “Luxury Spa Retreat”. Exciting times ahead!

Jerome Kim – mastering a snoot at Atmosphere
When the Underwater Dream Tour with 8 famous photographers visited Atmosphere in July, we knew we were going to get some amazing photos out if it. This month’s photographer is Jerome Kim, originally from South Korea and the mastermind behind the photography tour. We were also excited to see quite a few “new” critters in Jerome’s pictures.

A Day with the Chef – learn to cook à la Filipino
When you feel that eating food in the Philippines just isn’t enough but you’d like to try cooking it yourself – join our “A Day with the Chef” experience! Our Chefs will accompany you to the market and then teach you how to cook a few chosen local Filipino delicacies, complete with recipes to take home. These are some photos from different occasions, starting with the most recentLayla and Marco who cooked the Filipino bread Pandesal, Pinoy’s pride with seafood and Kinilaw (raw tuna in lime, ginger and coconut milk) in October.

Bubbly by the glass and 75 wines – just in time for New Year!
If you thought that Atmosphere had an extensive wine list before, just you wait until your next visit! Head Chef Denver has outdone himself with the new wine list, which is ready now with plenty of time to sample before Christmas and New Year. 75 wines in total, and a much more extensive selection of reds and whites by the glass. Including sparkling wine. We have also built a glass-walled Tasting Room by the restaurant where guests can admire and try our wines.

Meet Dr Alex Tattersall at Atmosphere
We are excited to host underwater photographer Alex Tattersall at Atmosphere Resorts in February. Although he will not be conducting scheduled workshops this time, he will be available for daily advice. Alex will also kindly be doing evening presentations for Atmosphere’s guests on how to shoot macro masterpieces and how to photograph without manipulating. Welcome to join! PADI Instructor Development
Now that's a lot of people! Our biggest PADI IE yet
Our September PADI Instructor Development Course ended with 6 happy new dive instructors through Instructor Development Philippines. On the day of the exam though, we had over 25 candidates from all over the Philippines join us. Examiners Conny Jeppsson and Tim Marshall had their hands full for two days. Huge congratulations to all and in particular our own candidates – now instructors – Semya Tonnessen, Tom Ashford, Ben Taverner, Chase Byerly, Laura Schram and Vincent Martinez, plus Annie Yu who completed her Staff Instructor Course.

Gives Forward
Atmosphere Soup Kitchen gets a thorough cleanup
In October, the Hong Kong International School visited Atmosphere for a week of dive courses, excursions and the yearly visit to improve our Soup Kitchen facilities. This year, ASK received a thorough cleaning by the kids, as well as a lot of new supplies. Atmosphere wants to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their kind donations of much needed supplies and monetary funding recieved throughout the year, which keeps the Soup Kitchen (ASK) running.

Four pygmy seahorses on the Atmosphere house reef
For lovers of the tiny – as well as those admiring the color pink – we have a treat for you. The last couple of months, we have had no less than four pygmy seahorses on the resident gorgonian fan on the house reef. Not wanting to challenge anybody to get the four of them in the same pictures, as that would involve manipulation, but our marine biologist caught two of them together.
