CEV PIPE policy conference conclusions are now published and can be downloaded together with the PIPE publication here. The Policy Conference “Promoting Inclusion Preventing Extremism (PIPE)” took place on 13-14 October 2016 in Brussels, Belgium and gathered stakeholders from across Europe to share good examples on how volunteers and their organisations can promote inclusion and prevent extremism.
The four CEV Policy Statements on 'Youth Guarantee', 'European Voluntary Service & European Solidarity Corps', 'Volunteering in Big Sports Events' and 'Voluntourism' approved during the General Assembly on 13 October 2013 can be downloaded here.
Save the date: CEV capacity building conference Developing European Volunteering Strategies, will take place on 6-7 April in London (UK). Registration opens in January 2017.
On 9 November 2016, CEV director Gabriella Civico participated in the TSI Final Conference: The Third Sector – A renewable resource for addressing Europe’s challenges. The results of the project include working papers on ”The Impact of Volunteering on Volunteers in 23 European Countries” and on “Unemployment, volunteering, subjective well-being and mental health” Read more...
The IAVE world conference took place on 7-10 November 2016 in Mexico City. CEV Vice-President Lejla Šehić Relić took part in the event that also involved representatives from CEV member organisations in Denmark, Ireland, Hungary, and the UK. Read more...
CEV supported the implementation of the Telefonica International Volunteer Day (TIVD) on 21 October 2016 in Germany and in the United Kingdom. More than 100 employees donated their time to sort donated clothing that was offered to refugees and to people in need through Caritas, Diakonie, British Red Cross and YMCA. Read more…
The Erasmus Plus VOLCAR project partners meeting took place in Bemmel (The Netherlands) on 24-25 October 2016. The meeting marked the concluding of the first part of the project with issuing the draft of the VOLCAR Guide, and the preparation of the online training that is taking place in November 2016. The third phase of the project involves a face-to-face training that is scheduled for January 2017 in Brussels.
Study visit: On 18 October 2016 CEV hosted 20 Italian volunteers and staff members from CSV Brescia who came to Brussels to learn more about European funding opportunities for volunteering and to find out more about how to build partnerships with European networks, and volunteer centres from other European countries.

New EP resolution "Calls on the Commission to facilitate the development of a more coordinated European volunteering policy with a view to establishing a single contact point in the Commission, which would interconnect the individual initiatives and programmes and improve access to volunteering programmes". The 2016
European Education, Training and Youth Forum took place on 20-21 October 2016 in Brussels, Belgium. It is the fourth Forum hosted by the European Commission, providing a platform for exchanges between a variety of Europe’s education, training and youth stakeholders.

A survey of civil society organisations in Europe conducted in early 2016 by Civil Society Europe and CIVICUS shows evidence of shrinking civic space in Europe. The survey aimed at assessing civil society’s perception and confidence in key civic space freedoms such as freedoms of assembly, association and expression; as well as their views on key challenges and wider political trends. CEV is represented on the steering committee of Civil Society Europe.
The Danish government announced a bill making it possible for municipalities to take out insurance on volunteers associated to the municipality. Read more here. The Minister of the Interior also announced that a group of six Danish municipalities are given permission to challenge the existing laws within the field of voluntarism, citizenship and involvement of citizens. This is a unique possibility to try on new ways of including and cooperation on voluntarism. Both #EVCapital 2018 candidates Aarhus and Ringkøbing-Skjern are members of the group of six municipalities.
