update for November/December 2016
The highlights over the past two months have been the Edgbarrow School employer engagement event and the Mentoring Fund for Thames Valley Berkshire being awarded to Adviza Partnership. Our team of Enterprise Advisers are continuing to help school management teams to understand the labour market and skills required to enter the workplace.

Skills Priority Statement 2016 

The aim of the Skills Priority Statement is to provide an overview of the skills required in Berkshire and to identify where local interventions are likely to have greatest impact in terms of addressing skills deficits.

Edgbarrow school: Unblocking the talent pipeline

As part of the Enterprise Adviser programme, Edgbarrow School hosted an employer engagement event on 9 December. The aim of the event, hosted by Dr Phillip Lee MP and attended by key local businesses, was to strengthen the link between the school and businesses and to continue working together in future so students are able to gain real hands on experience in industry.

Mentoring Fund Programme 
On 28 November the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) announced the successful bidders for its Investment Fund. £26,894 will be invested locally in mentoring programmes, in a bid to boost social mobility and support young people who are at risk of not fulfilling their full potential at school. Adviza Partnership is the successful applicant in Thames Valley Berkshire who will receive the full investment from the CEC. 

Cambridge Centre for Innovation in Technological Education believe it is more important than ever that our young people are equipped with the STEM knowledge and skills needed by UK employers. Thames Valley Berkshire LEP's Skills Priority Statement shows that 27% of jobs in Berkshire are STEM-jobs, compared to 22% nationally. iSTEM+ approach can be used to support schools in responding to this challenge.

Class Careers is a social enterprise that gives students direct access to employers at no cost to schools. All their workshops provide full lesson plans, support, and can be delivered by a member of school staff within in the classroom.
Spanning age ranges of 9-19, the main objective of F1 in Schools is to help change the perceptions of STEM by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in engineering, Formula One, science, marketing and technology. 

Three Minute Hero inspire young people with career stories from real people to showcase and shape the economic opportunity of their area.
 
In the Schools & Colleges pack is a project designed to bring schools and businesses together, allowing students to film local employees and create a bank of inspirational stories and advice.
