Fall Greetings to You!

I am hoping this finds all of our WVHIMA family and friends to be in good health and enjoying the changes in the season, as well as all the changes in our profession and healthcare.

WVHIMA was well represented at AHIMA Convention. Those attending had a great time in Charm City, enjoying the inner harbor of Baltimore, Shopping, Camden Yard, Marathon, M&T Stadium, and the Air Force Fleet Week with the Blue Angels Fly Overs. Additionally, there was so many great speakers on very timely topics at the Convention.
Melissa Martin was fantastic as AHIMA President and convention presider, and she extends her gratitude to all AHIMA and WVHIMA members for your support during her tenure as President 2015-2016.
Melissa was introduced at the opening general session by her daughter, Miranda wearing an astronaut costume.
House of Delegates: Chris, Megan, Jamie, and Nelson
We had so many great general sessions and break-outs that everyone attending had a different favorite take-away. So if you attended, please share all the information with our peers. KnowledgeConnex posted some of our pictures as we attended, so please forward other photos to share. 2017 AHIMA Convention next year will be held in Los Angeles, CA and should be a great convention as well.

The WVHIMA Board is busy with normal operations, transitions, and preparations for more education opportunities. So please check out the www.wvhima.org for updates. We held two fall retreat sessions in September, Fairmont and Charleston. We had a great slate of speakers and topics. We greatly appreciate all our sponsors and vendors for those two events.
The October HERO Step Challenge had several participants, all logging over 140,000 steps earning $15.00 off their April Registration Fee for WVHIMA Annual Convention, and one that earned $20 off for her 200,000 step accomplishment! Since this was such a new endeavor, we will run the challenge again in March, so that you can take advantage of the discount opportunity as well. Just to update you on my 5K Adventures, I am still running, completing my 20th race this coming weekend, and I encourage you to join me on my virtual races or local races. You can see my progress and updates on Facebook, #WVHIMA and #BeAHero. And I am working on a WVHIMA 5K Walk/Run to kick off our Convention on 4/19. I am very excited about that!

Plans are continuing for the WVHIMA Annual Convention, we are opening up EARLY Registration November 15, for those that would like to register early if your budget allows. The speakers, vendors, and topics are being worked on, and a final agenda will be out early 2017 (February/March). Mark your calendar for April 19-21 to attend the Convention in Oglebay.

As 2016 enters the fourth quarter, please let us know what we can do to better serve you! Watch for scholarships, award, and nominating opportunities coming up soon.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
