Cruise ship tour

Maureen LaSalle's Intro to Hospitality and Tourism class toured the 965-foot Serenade of the Seas cruise ship during its Oct. 24 port call in Portland. Students saw the ship's many restaurants and amenities, and learned about job opportunities and the pros and cons of working on a cruise ship.


Golf course outing

Golf, anyone? Doug Albert's Turfgrass Management class visited Portland Country Club on Oct. 25 to get an up-close look at the club's turfgrass management and environmental practices.


Halloween party

Midcoast students Maeve Shea and Hannah Cain were among the students to dress in costumes during the Midcoast Campus' party on Halloween.


Documentary on veterans

The film "Searching For Home, Coming Back From War" will be screened in the Midcoast Campus’s Hannaford Lecture Hall on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m., followed by a panel discussion and refreshments. Tickets are free, but RSVPs are requested at 442-7736.


Ghoulish goodies

Path to Graduation students held Halloween bake sales in the Campus center on Oct. 26-27, selling goodies such as Vampire Blood, Ghostly Sugar Cookies and Blood-spattered Cupcakes. Shown here are (from left) Chris Kelley, Martin Altieri and Savannah Barnes.


Lunch and Learn

Health Science students interested in palliative/hospice care won't want to miss this opportunity to hear from RN Jessica Duffy. Come join in at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in room G17 in the Health Science Center.


Moon and Mercury

SMCC student Emily Belanger's awesome photo of a crescent moon and Mercury was named the Oct. 27 Earth Science Picture by the Day by the Universities Space Research Association.

Nursing Club fundraiser

Nursing students Sarah Ireland and Destiny Clough sold Halloween treats during an Oct. 31 bake sale to raise funds for Christmas gifts for people in need and for the nursing program's spring medical mission trip to Zanzibar.


Talking STEM

Jamie McGhee was among the many SMCC faculty members who showed off SMCC's STEM learning capabilities to Portland Public Schools students at the Nov. 4 STEM Expo, held at USM. Here, he's demonstrating Gizmo, a miniature self-driving car.


Real Talk

Instructor Chomba Kaluba led an Oct. 27 open forum, dubbed Real Talk2, in which dozens of students and employees talked and heard others' opinions about discrimination and stereotyping in society.

Bulletin Board
  • Husky Harvest – Celebrate diversity at the 4th annual Husky Harvest Food Festival, featuring food from around the world and live entertainment. Held Thursday, Nov. 10, from 11a.m.-2 p.m. at the Woodbury Campus Center on USM's Portland Campus. The event is hosted by students of USM's Tourism and Hospitality's Event Planning class; SMCC's Culinary Arts program and the McKernan Hospitality Center are among the partners for the event.

With Spring registration right around the corner, now is the time to get ahead.

My Courses is the place to go on the MySMCC portal to search and register for Spring classes. Registration begins on Nov. 12 for current students with 30 or more credits and on Nov. 14 for current students with less than 30 credits.

My Courses also allows you to view your course schedule, check for cancelled classes, see class syllabi and access online course descriptions. You can check your bookstore allowance, see bookstore hours and learn about book buy-backs.
