KAYAC Pedestrian Mobility Plan
Here's a great opportunity to get involved in your city! The Kyle Area Youth Advisory Committee (KAYAC) will be holding a charrette — basically a Town Hall engagement meeting — to gather public input. Stop by and learn more, ask questions and get involved. This program will also include a community survey and public input in several phases. Any plans for pedestrian mobility will impact all residents and possibly how students get to school. Be part of the conversation! The meeting takes place beginning at 6:30 p.m. on November 10 at Kyle City Hall. Mark your calendars then attend. Check out KAYAC on their Facebook page and Like them!

Speaking of KAYAC, check out the group's Fall 2016 Newsletter! Visit the KAYAC webpage and click on the newsletter link at the bottom of the page.
Public Hearing on Proposed Storm Drainage and Flood Risk Mitigation Utility
Kyle City Council welcomes comments and input from city residents regarding a proposed Storm Drainage and Flood Risk Mitigation Utility. If passed, the utility would raise funds needed to maintain and improve drainage within the city limits. Residential customers in the city would see a $5 a month fee on their city utility bill. Commercial customers / property owners would pay a fee based on a formula that includes impervious cover on the property.
Kyle City Council approved the storm water utility ordinance on first reading on Nov. 1, 2016. The full ordinance is posted on the city's website and was printed in the Hays Free Press (the city's newspaper of record). The
public hearing will take place Nov. 15 during the Kyle City Council meeting. Visit www.kylestormwater.com to learn more.
KPD responds to complaints about
parking violations
In recent weeks, Kyle Police Department has received
a higher-than-normal number of complaints about parking issues and violations in neighborhoods across the city. Police Chief Jeff Barnett said his officers have responded with more patrols and have started ticketing violators. "We've heard from residents about people parking the wrong way on streets, parking in front of driveways and mailboxes and parking near fire hydrants," he said. "These types of issues, while seemingly harmless and petty to some in the community, are hazardous and illegal. Those who park in such a manner are subject to ticketing with no prior warning." However, Barnett said his department warned residents about increased patrols looking for those types of parking violations last year.
"There was even a story in the Hays Free Press about the issue," he said. In response to outcry from the residents in several neighborhoods, KPD officers started ticketing.
The issue died down for a while, but recently picked back up. Barnett said his department recently received a new wave of complaints about parking problems. "As a result of these recent complaints, our officers increased their patrols in those areas looking for those types of infractions," Barnett said. "They've written several tickets recently." Barnett said the easiest way to avoid a ticket is to follow the rules and don't break the law. "We prefer compliance over citations," he said. "But we will ticket those who are creating parking hazards in our neighborhoods."

Military Academy Nominations
deadline extended to Nov. 15, 2016

For our Kyle area students in the 35th Congressional District, Congressman Lloyd Doggett asked us to share this important message for students who want a Congressional nomination as they apply to a military academy:

Dear Kyle residents,
I share in the responsibility for ensuring that our military academies have the most highly qualified candidates from which to choose to meet the demands of the most powerful armed forces in the world. I will nominate candidates to compete for admission to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marines, and the U.S. Military Academy later this fall. With our deadline approaching, I seek your assistance in identifying any high school senior, who has demonstrated a concern for the affairs of our community and our Nation, has good leadership potential, and maintains a confident, positive outlook with a strong record in school. Please encourage such students to contact my office about an academy nomination. We have some able young leaders whom I would be pleased to recognize with the prestigious honor of a nomination to an academy. Potential applicants should call 512.916.5921 and speak with Lee Ann Calaway. The deadline for those submitting applications, and who reside within the 35th Congressional District, is November 15, 2016.

Sincerely,

Lloyd Doggett

End the Streak of highway fatalities

At least one fatality has occurred each and every day on Texas roadways since Nov. 7, 2000. That is a minimum of 365 deaths each year. The leading causes of fatalities continue to be failure to stay in one lane, alcohol and speed.
In an effort to end this deadly 16-year streak, the Texas Department of Transportation, through its #EndTheStreakTX campaign, reminds drivers to stay alert, obey traffic laws and take personal responsibility behind the wheel.

“Every day for the past 16 years, somebody has lost a spouse, child, friend or neighbor on Texas roadways,” TxDOT Executive Director James Bass said. “These deadly crashes are a sobering reminder that we must do everything in our power to stay focused and safe while driving.
Let’s end the streak.”

Kyle Police Department fully supports #EndTheStreakTX and encourages all drivers to help make the campaign a success.

TxDOT is asking people to change their social media profile pictures to the black image (download here). Throughout November, TxDOT’s social media pages will share facts and information about the last 16 years of roadway fatalities and invite Texans to publicly show their commitment to ending the streak of deadly days by sharing these posts with the hashtag #EndTheStreakTX. TxDOT also will invite the public to share personal stories of loved ones lost in car crashes on its social media pages using photo and video testimonials with the hashtag #EndTheStreakTX.

Since Nov. 7, 2000, fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes on Texas roadways have numbered 55,578. To decrease the chances of roadway crashes and fatalities, TxDOT reminds drivers to:

*Buckle seatbelts – all passengers need to be buckled
*Pay attention – put phone away and avoid distractions
*Never drink and drive – drunk driving kills; get a sober ride home
*Drive the speed limit – obey speed limits and drive slower when weather conditions warrant

Kyle Road Bond Updates
Road construction isn't fun, but the end result will be five beautiful new roads — and all thanks to the 2013 road bond passed by Kyle voters. Five roads are in the bond package: Goforth,
