Gearing Up For Season of Service, Period of Peace 2017

2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of Season of Service, Period of Peace at San Leandro High School. This is special project where youth identify what violence looks like in their community (school, home, city, country etc), identify an alternative to that violence and design a project to educate their peers and adults. This is a project SLED, along with Kaiser Permanente and SLUSD is proud to support.

In preparation for SOS/POP students have an opportunity to attend Youth United for Black Lives: A Challenging Race Workshop to learn how to talk about race and injustice in their community. The workshop, presented by Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) and White Youth Challenging Racism is intended for white high-school age youth who want to deepen their anti-racist thinking and better understand the systems of power and privilege that reproduce and maintain white supremacy. Through dialogue, role-playing and reflection, this workshop will explore the intersection of white identity and racism and develop tools to identify and challenge racism in ourselves and in our communities. Youth will leave with resources on how to plug in to anti-racist programs and organizing in the Bay Area. The event will be from 1 pm to 4 pm at Oakstop, 1721 Broadway, #201, Oakland.  More information is avaialbe by emailing youthandfamilies@surjbayarea.org.

SLHS Dramatic Arts Presents "Almost, Maine"

This is the last weekend for Almost, Maine, presented by San Leandro High School's Dramatic Arts Department.The shows will be held at the school's Arts and Entertainment Theater. Plan now to attend to show your support for the arts in our schools. More information regarding show times and to purchase tickets can be found at www.sanleandropac.com.
