WHAT'S HAPPENING AT EXCEED...

Casa del Valle Residential Facility Happenings...

October was full of treats! After haircuts and mani's and pedi's, several residents took an excursion to Myrtle Creek Botanical Garden where they enjoyed browsing in the little shops, relaxing among the beautiful plants outdoors and selecting their Halloween pumpkins. The next weekend held a day of makeovers. While the Moreno Valley Lowe's Coastal Holding Facility and Beaumont's Lowe's Flatbed distribution centers took on Casa for their Annual Lowe's Hero Makeover Project, the residents headed on their mission to find personal makeovers- the perfect Halloween costumes. The following Saturday began at the movies, strategically planned to save their energy for their night of dance hopping from the TLC dinner/dance and ending at the American Legion's dance. Additionally, Reggie was warmly welcomed to our home. And the last weekend would not be complete without a grand finale dance at EXCEED's Harvest Festival, pumpkin carving and seed roasting!

Santa Fe (Hemet) ADC Happenings...

This month, ADC clients were treated to the SoCal Fair at Perris Fairgrounds.  There was so much to see and do!  Clients enjoyed seeing the animals and watching the interactive shows and demonstrations that were there. There was live dancing and music to be enjoyed. Washboard Willie was a special treat for everyone. We all were caught up in seeing him play music on his washboard and play a harmonica as well. Mary and Elieza’s class painted small pumpkins for Halloween and decorated the hallway with a spooky scarecrow. Fall Festival is October 28th and clients are anticipating seeing friends, family and staff dress up and celebrate.

Santa Fe (Hemet) WAC Happenings...

October seems to have just blown by in the Santa Fe WAC.  The excitement of a busy workshop that we started feeling last month just kept us going this month as well.  The clients in the workshop were busy most days with new contracts as well as many of the usual contract work. It seems as though we are getting more of a groove going on the new contract work and things are just flowing along smoothly.  As always, we love being busy and active. Currently we are waiting on some larger orders to come in and be started.  All clients are receiving a mandatory training this month from DOR. The training falls on the same day as our Fall Harvest Festival in Perris so we expect that everyone will be there.  We will have a small party with music and light snacks on Halloween so anyone who misses the Fall Festival will still have a chance to celebrate with their friends.

Perris ADC Happenings...

The month of October has been so much fun for the ADC. The clients started working on the theme titled “Flavors of Fall”. They made Samoa apples (like the cookies), caramel white chocolate toffee apples, and sugar cookies shaped like leaves, ghosts, and pumpkins. We have taken EPAC’s to horse farms, pumpkin patches, bird farms, and Halloween stores. The clients and staff worked very hard to complete our annual haunted house (The Haunted Asylum) for our harvest festival. It turned out great and we got rave reviews. We are looking forward to our new theme “The Gift of Giving”.

Perris WAC Happenings...

The big event for October is our Annual Fall Festival, the evening of October 28th.    This really brings out the creativity in the clients and staff alike.    The clients were planning their costumes, (some being Funny, some Scary, and some just very Creative) and  talking to each other about their plans.  They were all looking forward to the food and dancing.   Clients and staff worked together to decorate for the event, and one could just feel the creative juices flowing through the place.

Any of the WAC clients who wanted to dare were able to go through the ADC's Haunted Asylum for a preview at the end of the day on Festival Day.  The Client Council and WAC staff wanted to make sure that those who were unable to attend got a chance to celebrate, so they sponsored a Fall Party at the end of the day on the 31st, where everyone could enjoy dressing in costume, some nachos, cupcakes and dancing.

Supported Employment Happenings...

Average IP wage is $12.61
Average Group wage is $6.52

Some great notable achievements this month are:

Three clients were placed into individual jobs making minimum wage or better and two of those were promoted from a group setting.

Luke S. earned an IP position by meeting his goals and being a role model to his group. He has started a new position at AutoZone where he will eventually earn up to $14 plus an hour.

Gabriel N. is also working at AutoZone and is doing great! He is meeting all of his goals and has begun training in using the fork lift. We are very proud of the growth that Gabriel has made over the last 18 months. He has moved from an ADC, to a group and is now thriving in his IP position where he will earn up to $14 per hour.

Matt J. is the Legislative Representative for People First, which is an organization of self-advocates training self-advocates. He recently traveled to Sacramento to attend the State Conference. He said that he really enjoyed the trip and has brought back some useful information that he will be able to share with his peers in the Support Group Meeting held at the Mission Grove office.

Juan A. received an award from Walgreens for being one of their Top 5 Performers. In order to achieve this you must have the highest productivity rates of all of the people that work the same shift. Juan came in at #2 with 149% productivity! Juan's Supervisor stated that Juan is a hard worker and an asset to the Walgreens team.

Howard B. received a very good employee's evaluation review, with 4 excellent marks. This is great news and we commend Howard for working so hard!

Anthony A. and Francisco C. began working the new group at AMA Plastics two months ago.  Both of them are doing very well and have impressed their employer enough that they have requested additional clients or another group.

Michael L. began working at AMA Plastics only a few weeks ago.  Already the employer has reported they are very happy with the work he is doing and Michael is extremely happy with his job duties.

Vanessa P. began working at a new group at Tech Data a few short weeks ago.  From the very first day, she has been reported to be doing an exceptional job.  She is a hard worker who is learning her new job tasks quickly and is eager to work.

Omond L. went from a group placement to an IP placement at AutoZone. Omond has began integrating himself into the workplace and developing friendships with other AutoZone employees.  He has been doing well with learning his job tasks and completing them to the employer standards.  Omond has been given a front position which is only given to those who know their job well.
