Exceptional Building Methods for the Equestrian Center

To properly design and build a sizable horse barn and riding arena for Vision Design Build Remodel’s clients, Cody spent much time in research before he began the design process. He determined that the best system to use for the entire building was post-frame construction. This is a building technique that was originally pioneered for horse barns and other agricultural buildings, but through the years has become the construction method of choice for many commercial, industrial, and municipal projects. It enables a wide open expanse to be entirely supported by large solid wood posts in a durable, cost-effective manner. The roofing structure for our clients’ barn is a combination of wood rafters and massive steel roof truss. The weight of the roof is transferred to the ground through the embedded posts.

See more beautiful photos and some of the intricate details that really set this project apart on our blog.

If you are contemplating building a horse barn, workshop, or any other large building that would benefit from post-frame construction, please contact Vision Design Build Remodel. We would enjoy working with you!

Fire Power

Not that long ago, when homeowners desired a special spot at home where they could relax in front of a fire and enjoy the warmth and ambience, they would usually install a fireplace in the living room. Today, homeowners are enjoying the mesmerizing flames of a fireplace in a multitude of locations throughout their homes, indoors and out. Fireplaces are showing up in bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Fireplaces are popular items for outdoor living areas as well, along with fire features like fire bowls, fire tables and fire pits. In fact, the results of a survey of landscape architects by the American Society of Landscape Architects indicated that fire features are the number one outdoor design element for 2016. Not only do they help create a romantic atmosphere, they also provide the light and heat that make an outdoor space comfortable in the evenings and during these cooler times of the year.

This is a good time to be adding some special fire features to your home when you remodel. If you are thinking of adding some permanent built-in fire features, it will require careful planning. You will want to hire a professional contractor who has a thorough knowledge of the safety issues involved and the local municipal safety codes. For example, a minimum ten foot clearance is usually required between an outdoor fireplace or fit pit and combustible materials. Outdoor fireplaces must be placed on a stable, non-combustible surface. And you should be aware that certain outdoor hardscape materials, such as limestone, retain water and can explode when overheated, even though they may have the appearance of a non-combustible. A professional can help you avoid costly design mistakes so that all you have to do is relax, put your feet up and enjoy.

All this was made very evident by The New American Home 2016 (TNAH), which was built as a showcase of ideas that remodelers and other building professionals can use in their own projects. Elegant fire lanterns and a fire table light up the VIP Suite outdoor lounge, while one amazing wall in the Master Suite bedroom is embedded with four vertical torch fireplaces. Flaming fire bowls bring enchantment to the lower courtyard, while several broad linear fireplaces make a big impact inside the house as well as outside. TNAH exhibits spectacular fire elements on every level of the three-story home, creating a sense of allurement around every corner of the home and drawing people together.
