Interactive Maps in R with Shiny + Leaflet
There's still another chance to learn how to turn your geographic data into beautiful, interactive maps using R! Josh Pepper will teach this popular workshop on creating easily reproducible, interactive maps. Register this workshop here!

Mapping Time Series Data in R
Are you wondering how to create multiple maps for different time periods? In the first half of this workshop UCB History Prof. Robin Einhorn will discuss why and how she is mapping a hundred years of taxation data. The second half of the workshop will be a tutorial in which we will create time series maps with various R packages. Registration and more info here.

Calling all scientists, software engineers, policy makers, designers, and entrepreneurs: please join us for the 4th annual BERC Cleanweb Hackathon! The election results will be in and our uncertain future requires some brave new hacks. Teams are challenged to create new ideas in the energy, resources, legal, and political sectors, using their hacking, data, and policy skill set. Food and beverages will be provided by BERC. Chris Hench is a PhD student in German Literature and Culture and Medieval Studies. Chris’s research interests are primarily in medieval epics and love poetry, the intersection of economic thinking and literature, and the tools of the Digital Humanities. One project he is currently working on involves developing a computational approach to syllabifying historical languages and predicting meter. He hopes to discover medieval poets' unique use of sound in language.
