Family Corner

The month of November is “National Family Literacy Month”- Invite parents and family members into the classroom to read stories all month long.  If you have school age siblings in your program, some of them may enjoy reading to their little brother's or sister's class.

Encourage families to check out this website for tips for reading at home.

Plan a Literacy Night for families!  National Family Literacy Month is a great time to "Fall Into a Good Book"!  Check with your local library and see if they have any resources for families or if they are available to come out and talk to families.

What is VROOM?  Vroom is a free app for both iPhones and Androids that lets families turn every moment into a learning moment.  There is no time in life when the brain develops more rapidly than during the first five years. So by building children’s brains from the earliest ages, you’re actually shaping the foundation for future learning.

News You Can Use!

The mission of the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention is to increase physical activity and healthy eating  to reduce and prevent obesity.  They have created the "Growing Healthy Classrooms" program and are encouraging all teachers who promote healthy eating and physical activity to submit an application.  The winning teacher will receive recognition at the 2017 NAPSACC Early Childhood Conference. Winners will also receive a press toolkit, which includes a parent letter, drafted social media posts and a newspaper article template.

This is a great way to share with families and the community about the efforts being made to prevent obesity and live a healthier lifestyle in your classrooms.

To fill out an application and to find out more, follow the link to the Coalition's website:
