Lutheran Disaster Relief
Helping victims of floods, earthquakes, unrest
Lutheran Disaster Response is part of our larger church's effort to bring comfort and safety to the world. It is known as one of the most effective and efficient relief organizations in the world. Workers have been helping Gulf Coast flood victims since that crisis began, and they are already heading to Italy to support earthquake victims. If you would like to support this effort, donate through the ELCA Disaster Response website.
Sunday School Activities
Available mid-service for PreK through 5th
Mid-service Sunday School activities are available during Sunday worship for children ages PreK through 5th. Children start in worship, then leave for activities after the Children's sermon. They return to the sanctuary in time for Communion/blessing and finish worship with the whole family. (Of course, children are always welcome to stay in worship for the entire service – we are a very family-friendly congregation.) Thank you to our team of volunteer teachers!
COOL Ministries – Vegetables & Thanksgiving Meals

The need for emergency assistance continues to grow, and COOL (Christian Outreach of Lutherans) does so much to help all who come to them at their Waukegan-based ministries. Each month we focus on one type of nonperishable item, but all items are welcomed (baskets in the hallway). We are also gathering items for Thanksgiving Meals, which are due back at church by Nov. 21 at noon so that Rob Jost can deliver in time. Manna Gift Cards
Next Orders Due Sunday and Nov. 21
The Manna Program supports non-profit organizations by giving a portion of purchases back to the group to support our church and school. Dozens of national and local vendors participate in the program that gives anywhere from 2 to 25 percent back to us. Are you giving gift cards to teachers this holiday season? Manna gives you the same gift card you can buy at the store, but Christ Lutheran will get a percentage back. Great for gifts, and for your own shopping – if you shop at Jewel, for instance, you can buy your shopping cards ahead and use them just like cash. You can order with a paper form and a check made out to "Christ Lutheran" or go right online (www.mannaorders.net) and set up an account. Our organization number is 2384, and volunteer Penni Sauer (penry4@gmail.com) can provide you with a family log in code and further assistance. Cards arrive in about a week. Next orders due by tomorrow (Nov. 6) and November 18.
Orlando Quilt Project
More than 2000 quilts for Pulse Community
This summer, quilt artist Deb Barnstable made a beautiful quilt, including a pocket for our notes of encouragement for the Orlando community touched by the Pulse Nightclub shootings. Deb reports that the Orlando Quilters Guild received quilts from more than 50 countries, as well as thousands of fabric blocks to make additional quilts. So far, they have been able to distribute more than 2000 gifts of comfort, focusing on survivors, families of victims, and first responders. May they feel our prayers and God's love with these gifts. Thanksgiving Breakfast – Sunday, Nov. 20
Join us for a meal after worship
We'll share a meal at about 10:30 a.m. as a Thanksgiving celebration. Potluck sign up sheets available soon – but come and eat regardless as we always have way more than enough. Please – join us!
Condell Interfaith Celebration – Nov. 20 at 4p
At Advocate Condell Centre Club
Chaplain and Christ Lutheran friend Rev. Fred Rajan notes: "In an increasingly multi-religious community like ours, it is important we as people of faith come together as Americans and celebrate and give thanks and gratitude for all God’s blessings. What better way to celebrate our American Thanksgiving than with all of our brothers and sisters who are created in the image of God! We are attempting to have a collection of 1,000 paper cranes for the Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration. The paper crane is an international sign of peace, which is the theme for this year’s service." (Information about how to make paper cranes is found on an Advocate Google Document.) The Interfaith Celebration, which runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Centre Club, 200 W. Golf Road, Libertyville, includes displays by local agencies. Donations gathered at the Interfaith Celebration will go to Feed My Starving Children (50%) and then split among the participating agencies.
