Midland Park houses were designed by award winning Canadian Architect, Edward Ross.  Each house was hand selected for its lot based on shape and size. [Above photo] The Don Villa ~ one of three semi-detached designs found in Midland Park.

A RARE, INTACT

MODERNIST COMMUNITY

Sub-division built from 1959-62.

One of the very few subdivisions in Toronto that had the site planning and houses designed by one architect with a modernist vision.

  • The architecture design of the Midland Park house is very simplistic in style and close integration with nature.

  • Just over 600 modern style houses

  • Paul T. Hellyer, Owner of Curran Hall / builder of Midland Park, wanted to build something "different than the typical". That is when he decided to hire an in-house Architect fresh out of University, turning his vision into reality.

  • Houses designed by Canadian architect, Edward (Ted) Ross. A graduate of the University of Toronto.

  • All houses use a simple palette of materials - brick, cinder block, and cedar cladding.

  • A number of the house models won design council awards.

  • Modern day intact example of MCM planning and development.

ORIGINAL HOUSE MODEL

"The PARKHURST".  A rare house model for MCM in general, because it is a two-storey with a garage. Designed with low profile, ground hugging, simple lines.  Only found in Phase One of Midland Park. Very few ever built. Two front variations of this Midland Park Original were for sale in 1959. See this house on Birkdale, Cartier and Abbottswood.
