GOT YOUR 6

In military vernacular, "got your six" means "I've got your back, I'm looking out for you."
In honor of Veterans' Day this Friday, DDG is featuring a campaign that aims to have the backs of all our American veterans by fighting for them to have leadership opportunities and foster understanding in their communities.
A campaign of Be the Change, Inc.,  Got Your 6 focuses on the power of collective impact by supporting the work of more that 30 veteran-focused nonprofits in collaboration with government partners and members of the entertainment industry.
For separating vets, reintegration can be a challenge. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, veterans comprise about 10 percent of the nation's homeless population and 20 percent of suicides. The Dept. of Veterans' Affairs tells us that more than half of separating post-9/11 vets face a period of unemployment.
On the flip side, 95 percent of veterans gain employment before they've collected all 26 weeks of unemployment benefits and veterans demonstrate high levels of civic involvement, including at the polls.
Among the Got Your 6 programs is Don't Just Thank, Vote. So tomorrow, get your heinie to the polls to show your appreciation to those who have served. And to learn more about this week's DDG featured org, click here.

DONATE TO GOT YOUR 6
HOW TO HAVE THEIRS
November 11, 1919 -- President Woodrow Wilson issues a message in honor of the first Armistice Day, which would later become Veterans Day. This Friday (and over the weekend), show your thanks for those who served in the armed forces: Attend the Veterans Day National Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Volunteer at your local VA (also a good student project). Take a deep breath and support the Veterans Yoga Project. Create care packages for military families. Help women veterans transitioning out of homelessness. Volunteer to be an angel for a soldier or her family. Run or volunteer at the 10K for the Wounded Warrior Project. Help separating vets feel at home and transition back into the workforce. You can even get your pets involved. There are always ways to serve those who served this country.
YOU MIGHT NEED THIS TOMORROW
As American citizens, we are proud supporters of the democratic process and are grateful for our right to vote. But let's be honest. This election has been, shall we say, contentious at times? And there's no doubt some people are going to be very disappointed come tomorrow night, while others will be very, very happy. So drink a toast or drown your sorrows with the Election Night Drinking Game, courtesy of DebateDrinking.com.
