Gifted: Ten years of Artspace Mackay Foundation

October 21 - December 4
Gallery Two, Artspace Mackay

This latest exhibition drawn from the Mackay Regional Council Art Collection focuses specifically on purchases made by Artspace Mackay Foundation, the vital fundraising arm of the gallery. Collecting is at the heart of what we do and philanthropic support from the Foundation allows the gallery to reinvest in the community through the acquisition of high quality artworks, helping to grow our diverse and vibrant collection. Artists books, prints and other works on paper come together in this eclectic and unique exhibition to celebrate ten years of collaboration between Artspace Mackay and Artspace Mackay Foundation.

Community exhibition: Colour Your Life

10am to 4pm, November 18 - 26
Old Town Hall, Sydney St, Mackay

Colour Your Life is an exhibition by The Green Frog Art Group.  They meet on a fortnightly basis and are not just an art group but a social gathering of members sharing their current art or craft from home.  Ideas and creativity are shared over a cuppa and new friends made, with lots of laughter and fun taking place.  It is hoped the exciting art (using oils, acrylics, watercolour and even coffee), together with cards, framed photographs locally inspired, craft and colouring help to Colour your Life.

New donation from Queensland artist Davida Allen

Davida Allen - one of Australia's most significant contemporary painters - has recently donated a major gift of three paintings to the Mackay Regional Council.

'Davida Allen's generous donation to Artspace is the most significant gift by a living artist since the Tate Adams Gift in 2003,’ said Artspace Director Julie Skate. ‘The gift of an outstanding, greatly sought after group of paintings adds depth to the MRC Art Collection and fits well with our collection policy.’

Born in Charleville, and with a studio retreat at the coastal town of Zilzie near Rockhampton, Allen is also a film maker, writer and the winner of the 1986 Archibald Prize with her portrait of her father-in-law Dr. John Shera. Her work is typically characterised by a bold use of colour and expressive ‘brush work’.

Artspace is very pleased to share this great news and will display this work in October 2017.
