National held a webinar on planning events for the centennial of the US entry into WWI December 1st.  Organizations all across the country are planning events, large and small, to commemorate this momentous event. What are you planning to commemorate the official entry of the US into the war? 

The national commission has produced a couple of documents with suggestions to help you plan your event.  It can be as simple as a flag raising with Taps played to parades, wreath laying, almost anything.

Texas Christian University Special Event

Texas WWI Centennial Commemoration Association

For the last couple of months we have been working on a Memorandum of Understanding with the Texas Historic Commission that will make collaborations with the State of Texas and THC easier and more beneficial to us all.  To do this we needed to establish a legal entity the THC could recognize and make an agreement with.  To facilitate this we established the Texas World War I Centennial Commemoration Association.  This is an unincorporated nonprofit association and all of us in the state are welcome and included in this association. No paperwork required

Although this will not allow you to offer tax deductions if you are not recognized by the IRS, it will provide an identity for you to use when asking for funding or other requests.  Simply modify the organization name to suit your area, for instance:  Central Texas WWI Centennial Commemoration Association.  It is not a corporation or partnership, but is a legal association registered with the State of Texas.  Your organization simply becomes a "chapter" or "branch" of the Texas association.  If you need the ability to offer tax deductions, any 501(c)(3) can act as a fiduciary to handle your finances. A new WWI Re-enactors group has formed in North Texas to add to all the upcoming WWI activities.  Visit their Facebook Page to see what they are doing. 
 

A group of re-enactors are working with the Museum of the American G.I. in College Station to build a WWI trench system.  They would like to complete the project by March 27th of next year.  They need donated railroad ties and posts.  They have transportation available.  If you can help, or know someone who can, please have them contact Michael Ditto at: mj_ditto@yahoo.com
