Let's Prioritize You

It’s never too late to pick up a new hobby and it’s never too late to learn something new. But as busy working adults it can be hard to carve out the time. Many of us parents are willing to invest lots of time and money into activities for our children, but find it hard to justify the cost of enriching ourselves.

Create beautiful art from the point of a pencil in our 3-day Colored Pencil Workshop. Decorate your home with easy holiday ornaments in our Handmade Holiday: Felted Ornaments class. Want to impress your dinner guests? Join Francesca to make delicious dishes for the holiday season in our  Italian Holiday Dinner which is a hands on/demo that will leave your guests in awe.

Stay curious all you lifelong learners!

Get in the Game!

Do you have a New Year’s resolution to be more active? Adult Volleyball Winter Team registration runs Nov 8–15 (or as space allows). Play starts in January. Organize a team to play, or contact the league director about getting on a team if you don’t have one.  More info and link to sign up is HERE.

TENNIS — Adding Years to Your Life

Play 3 hours of tennis a week and you’ll cut your risk of death in half from any cause, according to a Harvard University study of 10,000 people during a 20-year period.

The Cleveland Clinic says tennis is “an ideal sport for a healthy heart.” And a Johns Hopkins study showed that middle-aged men who played tennis (more than any other activity) had a significantly lower incidence of cardiovascular disease as they aged.

What’s Cooking?

Chili is a local specialty with a specific history. The dish of meat, cooked up with dried chilies and spices, got its start in San Antonio. It’s been said that chili joints meant the difference between starvation and staying alive during the Great Depression since chili was cheap and crackers were free!

Ann Arbor Civic Chorus Fall Concert "The Peace of Wild Things"

The theme this semester is a celebration of nature, to coincide with the centennial of the National Parks. As always, we will sing pieces from various genres, exploring nature as sanctuary, nature as inspiration and nature as symbol. Look forward to hearing music by Purcell and Mendelssohn, from the musicals “Annie Get Your Gun” and “The Secret Garden,” the classics
Blue Moon and Blue Skies, a water song from Kenya and the stunning "Sure on this Shining Night" by Barber, among many others. The title is taken from a Wendell Berry poem that you will see set to music in this inspiring program. Come find your peace with music celebrating the beauty and power of nature!
