The Harvard Crimson on the beat again, reports university Men's Cross Country student-athletes also produced annual analysis of its female counterparts that included sexually explicit language. The practice has regularly occurred before a dance between the two teams, though current captain Price says "team culture has since shifted and the 2016 spreadsheet does not contain any lewd comments." Price emailed to teammates over the weekend urging them to come forward with any additional information, "We don’t want the school to find this, without us first bringing it to them. The problem with the Men’s Soccer team was they tried to hide their stuff." No official comment from the school yet. (link)
Cincinnati AD Bohn on FB HC Tuberville's inappropriate exchange with a fan while exiting the Nippert Stadium playing field on Saturday night after losing to BYU, "Coach Tuberville was put in a no-win situation in front of his team last night which resulted in an out of character response from him. He expressed frustrations from an emotional game. Our team, led by our seniors, is fully engaged with coach and his staff right to the finish." (link)
Put a reminder on your calendar tomorrow morning as this interview sounds really interesting. Longtime Kentucky reporter Combs recorded a podcast with notable mover & shaker Host on his career in & around college athletics. Here are a couple of tweets from Combs, "Did you know ACC once invited UK to join the conference in early 1990s? All 8 ACC schools had endorsed the idea through Duke AD Tom Butters. Did you know SEC was set to add  Florida State (instead of South Carolina) during SEC expansion in 1992, but Coach Bobby Bowden nixed it? Bobby Bowden's reason to turning down SEC for ACC, according to Host? Bowden reportedly said he could wins titles in ACC, but not SEC." (link, link, link, link)
Kennesaw State FB student-athlete Terry took a seat for the National Anthem on Saturday before the Owls faced Clark Atlanta (DII). Terry chose not to speak to the media about his stance, but AD Williams offered, "It’s a very personal situation to him. […] We encourage our athletes to follow protocol and stand for the national anthem, but we always want to talk about what’s going on in the world. It’s the power of diversity and the power of different thoughts. We can’t make this negative. This is what makes America what it is. A dialogue is necessary with our student-athletes. It’s part of higher education." (link)
Washington State Prez Schultz announced a review into the process that led to the suspension of FB student-athlete Barber that's been hot on the wire of late. But, stops short of lifting Barber's ban. A plan has been worked out to allow Barber to complete his coursework off campus & graduate in December. Vocal opponent & state rep Baumgartner, before "storming out of the room" during Schultz's address, "I still don’t think you guys are listening. If you don’t fix this, I (expletive) will." More. (link); Additional moves in Pullman include an upgraded $3M budget for enhancements to the Cougars Soccer field to improve access & restrooms. (link)

With a number of recent breaches in South Korea, the ACT has closed all 32 testing locations in the country for the remainder of the year & will administer the exam at only one location overseen by officials from the States. "Moving to a single testing venue directly monitored by ACT staff members will allow ACT to have greater oversight on the testing process, improving test security and fairness." (link)

USF AD Harlan announces plans to add Women's Rowing to the Bulls portfolio with a program to launch potentially as soon as 2018 that will be housed at the school's Sarasota-Manatee campus. Harlan: "We don’t dip our toes into things. If we are going to get into something, we are going to win." Trustee Shinn: "We are now recruiting a coach. We hope to get many of our athletes from the local area. We want to be nationally competitive and a top-10 team. We will be competing with New England schools and Stanford." (link)
New Nebraska WBB HC Williams details why it was essential for her entire South Dakota staff to join her in Lincoln, "It’s very rare to find a situation where you have such cohesiveness and a staff that gets along so well and understands each other and complements each other well. That’s a unique thing, so when you find that, to be able to hold on to that is a blessing." Williams says one of her very first conversations with Cornhuskers' AD Eichorst included her request to bring her entire staff with her, "...he was very supportive about the fact that it looks like this whole thing works and what’s the chances that they could all come?'" Each of the three ACs have the exact same salary, $140K, & none hold any special titles like Asst. HC. More. (link)
The News & Observer's Jacobs writes on the recent rash of unsportsmanlike penalties called on ACC FB HCs & wonders if more should be administered to send a stronger message to gridiron leaders. Notes how former Maryland HC Ross & Clemson peer Ford were both ejected from a 1986 match-up for inappropriate actions towards referees & you may remember that the "Ol' Ball Coach" was suspended for Duke's 1988 seasons finale for his comments the previous wee concerning a holding call. Jacobs also looks at the $20K fine for Florida State boss Fisher in the context of his high pay rate for the current campaign. (link)
Apparel industry expert & NPD Group analyst Powell offers some insight on Nike's troubles via a handful of tweets. "Fashion cycles come and go. As recently as 2011, sales of performance basketball were negative and had been negative from 2005-2011. Nike has lowered prices on several BB styles and sales have remained negative, so this trend is not a price issue but a fashion issue. […] Nike completely missed this shift in fashion from perf. BB and has not responded quickly enough to pivot to retro and lifestyle running. Nike will have to wait until the fashion spinner comes back to performance basketball  and that could be a while. In H1 2015, Perf BB sales were up in the mid teens, H2 down mid singles, H1 2016 -20%. I've never seen a category hit the brakes this hard." (link - scroll down)
Last night's Athletic Director U. featured a rundown of Showtime's new documentary, "ONE & DONE/BEN SIMMONS," that was all over the news last week. Showtime followed Simmons throughout his final high school years, along with his single season at LSU. Great context on the Simmons family situation offered as they moved to Baton Rouge a couple of months into last school year. Simmons with a number of negative thoughts toward the NCAA, sister Emily's pre-existing role with Rich Paul's Klutch Sports Group explored, missed classes, media obligations & lots more as the former Tigers star officially exited college ball just days after his team was eliminated from the SEC Tourney. Baylor: Brenda Tracy on the developments in Waco from Saturday that included shirts being sold outside McLane Stadium with #CAB (Coach Art Briles), "All this stuff keeps coming out and these people just keep defending that man (Briles) — at the expense of all these victims and survivors — and I don’t get it. I don’t understand why nobody is standing up and saying something about it. … You know that this is being organized. Why would you do this? […] I think about how much they must be struggling — and how shameful it is of Baylor in this football season to not even care what these victims are going through. I’m so angry with them. … You’re making sure their lives are destroyed. People treat us (rape survivors) like we’re not even human, like we don’t even matter. […] Why can’t Baylor end the season for this? To me, this is egregious behavior. This is not OK on any level. You cannot tell me that those assistant coaches and players didn’t know what they were doing." (link); NewsOK.com's Tramel, "The defiant actions of various Baylor coaches, players and fans to continually celebrate Art Briles, and Baylor's inability to squelch such defiance, calls into question whether this university belongs in the Big 12." (link)
We're now a year removed from the threatened boycott of competition by Missouri FB that led to all sorts of change in Columbia & really around the nation, as well. Interim Chancellor Foley's office says the focus remains on moving forward. HC Odom also sticks to the script, "There's a lot more to being a student-athlete than Saturday afternoons from 3pm to 6:30pm, and I've got to get it right in every area. That's what I'm trying to do every day." (link)
Former Florida FB HC & current South Carolina boss Muschamp set to return to Gainesville this weekend as the Gamecocks visit the Gators. Says he holds no grudges against former UF AD Foley for his departure from the program two years ago, "In this profession, if you don’t win enough games, you get fired. That’s part of it. […] Anybody who knows me, they know this game is really important to me because of our players and the University of South Carolina. That’s No. 1, and that’s the way it’s going to be for me. I know that’s boring and you don’t want to hear that, but that’s how I feel." (link)
From Harvard Business Journal: "Why the Problem with Learning Is Unlearning." Author & Shift Thinking Founder/CEO Bonchek offers a three-part approach to unlearning: First, you have to recognize that the old mental model is no longer relative or effective; Second, you need to find or create a new model that can better achieve your goals; Third, you need to ingrain new mental habits. Benchek writes specifically on the application of unlearning to marketing & organizational design, quotes Einstein, "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." (link)
