Meet Collin Robinett: FIRST Americorps VISTA
FIRST Robotics Competition alumni Collin Robinett knows firsthand what kind of difference FIRST can make in a student’s life. Now he’s spending a year as an Americorps VISTA to help teams in underserved and under-represented areas get the same benefits.
You may see Collin and fellow FIRST VISTA Dylan Fuehrer at regional competition managing logistics to create a great event for participating teams. Collin, who earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle, looks forward to introducing students to STEM.
"The fact that I am actively working to bring as many students as possible into a STEM environment through KC STEM and FIRST is so fulfilling,” Collin said. "Plus I get to work with LEGO and robots a lot of the time, and who can say no to that?"
A fan of all all kinds of games—board games, card games, video games and sports—Collin notes another benefit FIRST offers students:
"The fact that FIRST promotes Gracious Professionalism and competing as hard as you can while still trying to learn and work with others is one of the best ways I've seen to scratch that competitive itch while having a fantastic time doing it,” he says. "Plus, especially where these kids may be going, there really aren't any losers.”
