ODD MAN OUT "CCHC"

ODD MAN OUT "CCHC"
7"EP - $4.10
UXO - UXO-002v

Odd Man Out began in Olympia, WA in 2008 with the intention of demonstrating that the straight edge was very much alive in the small city. A demo was recorded to be distributed in secret to the local record shops Phantom City Records and Rainy Day. Fast forward to 2014 and the band has a lineup and tours to Mexico, the east coast and the west coast under their belts with bands like Protester, Power, Angel Du$t, Gag and Big Bite as well as a self released demo cassette, self titled 7" and CCHC cassette. Determined to preserve the anonymity of the band Odd Man Out credits themselves as simply, 'the straight edge', often shares edge members with other bands to complete a lineup and makes releases on their own or through independent labels run by friends such as WarthogSpeak, Pop Wig and UXO. The newest release, Capital City Hardcore, is a testament to the bands fierce attitude toward hardcore and the straight edge; six new songs focused on ferocity and the more extreme side of hardcore.

PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS "Prey"

PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS "Prey"
CD - $7.00 / CASSETTE - $6.00 / 12"LP - $10.70
DEATHWISH / DW193

Planes Mistaken For Stars formed in Peoria, Illinois in 1997, and relocated to Denver Colorado in 1999. From the outset, they were an artistic anomaly; carrying both a worn rust belt heart a warm midwestern soul. Collectively they combined different kinds of musical rebellion; hardcore aggression, punk energy, and gritty rock n’ roll spirit into their own special noise. Ultimately laying the blueprint for today’s emotional punk rock resurgence.

"Prey" is the long awaited new album from Planes Mistaken For Stars. Produced and engineered by Sanford Parker (Wovenhand, Leviathan, Yob), "Prey" is a beautifully haunting return to form. In need of isolation to finish writing the album, founder Gared O’Donnell took to the road alone. Instead of finding a predictable muse, he found himself driving deep into the crumbling heart of middle America. There, Gared took up residence in decrepit motels, finding inspiration in the descending darkness surrounding him.

Chaotic opener "Dementia Americana" serves as a rude awakening with the lyrical crescendo of "Wake Up!" being shouted over and over again. It's as if the creators are fighting to emerge from the eternal tumble of a nightmare. From there, the next five songs are seemingly instant Planes Mistaken For Stars classics; "Til' It Clicks", "Riot Season", "F*cking Tenderness", "She Who Steps", and "Clean Up Mean". All of them are multi-layered, melodic, and infectious in a way that only they can be. These lead to the touching "Black Rabbit"; a stark acoustic number that shows Gared at his most vulnerable. "Pan In Flames" and "Enemy Blinds" then creep into view. Two powerful songs explore almost apocalyptic musical territory. These usher in the jaw dropping closer "Alabaster Cello" which ends with the lyrical mantra of "Now We Wake...". Signaling that the figurative slumber is over for this off kilter and brilliant cult status band.

SUPER UNISON "Auto"

SUPER UNISON "Auto"
CD - $7.00 / CASSETTE - $6.00 / 12"LP - $11.35
DEATHWISH / DW195

Oakland, CA trio Super Unison features Meghan O’Neil Pennie (formerly of PUNCH) on bass and vocals, Justin Renninger (formerly of Snowing) on drums, and Kevin DeFranco on guitar. Formed in 2014, they released a self-titled EP on vinyl and cassette formats soon after. The EP was incredibly well-received and praised by publications far and wide, from Rolling Stone to Brooklyn Vegan. The band toured the western portion of the USA following the EP’s release, which included shows with Shook Ones, Self Defense Family, Coliseum, Dogs on Acid and more. As veterans of the Bay Area scene and beyond, Super Unison have become known for their incendiary live show in their relatively short time as a band thus far.

Super Unison have partnered with Deathwish to release their anticipated new album, “Auto”. The album was recorded at Atomic Garden Studios by Jack Shirley (Oathbreaker, Deafheaven, Loma Prieta). Like their self-titled EP, Super Unison’s latest offering is concise and intense with most frantic songs coming in at the two minute mark. Within “Auto”, Super Unison introduce a wash of discordant melody and texture into the fray. Keeping things fast paced and smartly aggressive at every twist and turn.

OATHBREAKER "Rheia"

OATHBREAKER "Rheia"
2xLP - $15.30 / CD - $7.00 / CASSETTE - $6.00
DEATHWISH / DW196

“Rheia” is the groundbreaking album from Belgium’s Oathbreaker. Engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta), “Rheia” is a true game changer for the genre. Blurring lines and dissolving the boundaries of heavy music as we know it today.

Opener “10:56” begins with a haunting guitar riff and Caro Tanghe’s beautifully sung vocal before abruptly soaring to new heights with “Second Son of R”. Its blasts of melody mutate into a blackened buzz while waves of tempo changes pound down with intense emotional weight. “Being Able To Feel Nothing” then rolls in like a storm. Chaotically breaking apart to reveal the eye before churning once again. “Stay Here / Accroche-Moi” is an otherworldly reverb drenched acoustic number that leads to “Needles In Your Skin”. A deeply personal song that showcases the artistic strength vulnerability brings. It’s hard to believe that this is just the half way point of this post everything masterwork. “Immortals” then unfurls as a goose bump inducing monster. This leads to the ambitious “I’m Sorry, This Is”, “Where I Live”, and “Where I Leave”; A musical triptych that needs to be heard to be believed. All of it comes to an end with mesmerizing closer “Begeerte”. Ethereally materializing before vanishing into the beautiful unknown.

FANGE "Purge"
CD - $8.50 / 12"LP - $12.50
THROATRUINER / THROATR055v

Founded in 2013 in Rennes (western France) by Huata’s bassist B.Moreau with the will of pushing sludge in its more abrasive, mind-numbing corners, FANGE’s debut EP «Poisse» revealed a band with an uncommon take of the genre. Re-appropriating the classic Swedish death metal sound with detours to harsh noise, crust or metallic hardcore, the band now fully realize their sound on their first album «Purge», strengthened by a new line-up that features drummer B.Louvet and vocalist M.Jungbluth (Calvaiire).

With only one guitar throwing out monstrous HM-2 fueled riffs, stomach-kicking yet versatile drum work and bile-gargling, mutilated vocals, «Purge» marks a filthier turn in the band’s uncompromising wall of sound. Entirely recorded by KKP (Abjvration, Huata, Ataraxie…) and enhanced by ear-piercing layers of noise, these six tracks are an exhausting aural experience. This is ignorant music for the Educated Man. For fans of : irrational feelings of guilt, Tom G.Warrior vocal gimmicks, body negativity.

THE SUSPECTS "Voice Of America"
12"LP - $10.70
SIX FEET UNDER / SFU094v

Grave Mistake and Six Feet Under are honored to present a significant artifact in DC punk history - a reissue of The Suspects' 1995 full length, "Voice of America," along with the tracks from their 1994 debut self-titled 7". Originally released on their own Torque Records label, the band's seminal output contains thirteen blasts of timeless and unadulterated punk rock, delivered with a precise intensity that maintains its urgency two decades later. There is no denying The Suspects' significance during their tenure as torchbearers for Washington DC Punk and Hardcore, and their role in its history paved the way for the city's scene to grow and thrive for decades to follow.

The state of punk rock in Washington DC in the early 90's was an interesting one, to say the least. A decade had passed since the initial wave of classic punk and hardcore bands put the city on the map, and the District was comfortably settled in a post-Revolution Summer era of indie and math rock. While there is no denying the importance and influence of the late 80's / early 90's Dischord Records bands that dominated the region, it came as no surprise that there were a few who still longed for the urgency of the classic hardcore punk sound and attitude that remained notably absent from the DC scene at this time.

It was out of this void that The Suspects were formed. Founded by original Scream drummer Kent Stax alongside guitarist Bryan Harbin, bassist Chris Condayan and vocalist Brian Gayton, the Suspects came together in 1993 with one objective - to inject the Nation's capital with a long forgotten dose of uninhibited punk intensity. Combining their love for classic '77 UK punk with the aggression and power of the DC Hardcore classics, The Suspects were a pivotal band for the region; crucial in keeping the spirit of DC Punk and Hardcore alive and flourishing for generations to come.

Supported by energetic live performances, the band gained an impressive following not only locally, but nationally as well. They shared the stage with a plethora of name bands from the decade - Rancid, The Pist, Violent Society, Dropkick Murphys, Blanks 77, Showcase Showdown, The Boils, Swingin Utters, US Bombs, and Pennywise, as well as legendary bands like the UK Subs, Fear, and The Ramones. Regarded by many as the most relevant DC punk band of the nineties, their music bridged the gap between the eighties Dischord scene and the diverse punk subsets of the 2000s, consequently providing a soundtrack for the lives of countless mohawked outcasts. Chances are if you lived in DC at the time and considered yourself a fan of punk music in any way, you were a fan of The Suspects.

BREAKDOWN "The '87 Demo"
12"LP - $12.50
PAINKILLER / PKR062v

Painkiller and 540 Records have teamed up once again to bring you the other half of the legendary “Breakdown; Both Demos” series: the legendary ’87 Demo. Breakdown’s original 1987 lineup was only together for a few short months, but in that time they produced one of the most legendary and influential recordings in the history of New York Hardcore. Paving the way for every hard and heavy band to follow, Breakdown’s take on hardcore was balanced with the perfect mix of hip hop’s bounce, the power and dynamics of heavy metal, and an unmistakable New York accent laced across a tough, streetwise sound that could only have come out of 1980’s New York City.

This LP contains the full 9-song ’87 Demo, released here for the first time on vinyl in its entirety, backed with a crushing live set recorded on WNYU radio’s Crucial Chaos during the summer of 1987. Both recordings have been faithfully restored from original sources and sound better than ever. Includes a full color 12”x24” poster insert with extensive notes and anecdotes from members of the NYHC scene.

DESCENDENTS "Hypercaffium Spazzinate"
12"LP - $15.00
EPITAPH / EPITAPH87246v

Descendents' much anticipated new album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, is available now.

Descendents’ first Epitaph release since Everything Sucks in 1996, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, began taking shape after the band ended an extended hiatus to play live in 2010. Though still tight, they lived apart: singer Milo Aukerman -- whose cartoon rendering famously serves as the band’s logo -- was now living in Delaware, bassist Karl Alvarez and founder and drummer Bill Stevenson were in Colorado, and guitarist Stephen Egerton had settled in Oklahoma. So the album came to life over three years as the band sent tracks back and forth, occasionally meeting up in Karl and Bill’s adopted hometown of Fort Collins. Adopting such a protracted process meant not having to rush things, allowing for some of their sharpest songwriting yet.

FLASHLIGHTS "No Love"
12"LP - $7.50
PROTAGONIST / PROTAG054v

Another slab of catchy indie music by this Florida band. This time, on "No Love," Flashlights finds the perfect middle-ground between the scrappy pop-punk of their first LP ("I'm Not Alone," also on Protagonist Music) and the more somber tone of their follow-up, "Bummer Summer." The pain and sadness is still here in the lyrics (and in the album title), but it combines effortlessly with melodies and guitar leads that get deep into your head and stay there. Comes with a download card. For fans of: Superchunk, Joyce Manor, Beach Slang, Hop Along

JOYCE MANOR "Cody"
12"LP - $15.00
EPITAPH / EPITAPH87483v

Acclaimed Californian band Joyce Manor - Barry Johnson (vocals and guitar), Chase Knobbe (guitar), Jeff Enzor (drums), and Matt Ebert (bass) - have released their new album entitled Cody, available now care of Epitaph. It is the follow-up to the band’s 2014’s critically-lauded record Never Hungover Again.

While the band’s Epitaph debut Never Hungover Again was recorded in a mere ten days, Cody is the result of two months in the studio with renowned producer Rob Schnapf, credited on classics by Elliot Smith, Guided By Voices, Saves The Day and Rancid among others. As the band’s guitarist and singer Barry Johnson explains, “It was the first time we really used the studio to our advantage. I felt like I could get a better grasp on what we could do. We always recorded like a punk band—go in and lay ‘em down! Just get good takes! And this time we tried a lot more.” The result is a record that dares to be humble, intimate and unapologetically human. Cody is the album where the band moves past simple pop and punk. It’s a moment for clarity and creative renewal. Without losing any of the emotional power fans love, the band is defiantly looking towards the future.
