Charity Challenge Returns to Help Local
Food Shelves

GREATER ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Charity Challenge has become a tradition for the Norman C. Skalicky Foundation, the Central Minnesota Community Foundation and the St. Cloud metro area.
Skalicky started the Charity Challenge in 2001 when $10,185 was raised by the public for three local food shelves and his foundation matched that donation to make the total $20,185. The Challenge has grown to raising a record $342,000 from the public in 2015 with a $100,000 match from the Skalicky Foundation for a total of $442,000. The tradition has become a passion for Skalicky, the chairman and CEO of Stearns Bank. A total of more than $2.2 million has been donated since it began.
“To see how far we’ve come with the Charity Challenge is remarkable,” Skalicky said. “Stearns Bank has always been passionate about giving back to the community, but even more so to people in need. With the community’s involvement, we’re helping more people every year.”
The Skalicky Foundation and the Central Minnesota Community Foundation announced today that the Charity Challenge match for local food shelves will take place again this year – matching every dollar donated to three area food shelves (up to $100,000) this holiday season. Donations for the Charity Challenge need to be received by December 31. Contributions should be sent directly to any of the following food shelves with the attention of “Food Shelf Charity Challenge” attached:
