Death of College Founder's Son

St Antony’s College is sad to announce the passing of Antonin Besse Senior, the son of the College’s founder, Antonin Besse at the age of 89.

Tony as he was fondly known will be missed by many and was known for his philanthropic activities, most notably as patron and honorary vice-president of United World College which he helped found in 1962.

Full details of his and his family’s extraordinary life can be found on the UWC’s website.

The College flag has thus been lowered to half-mast.

Space, Emotions and Untouchability

Untouchability in India has been widely understood as the practice of excluding, from social or religious life, people who are believed to be permanently impure. Yet, this vision neglects the different emotions and feelings that untouchability produces in the subjects involved with it.

Jesús Cháirez-Garza will be analysing the complex nature of this issue by looking into the autobiographical notes of B.R.Ambedkar and draws out ideas of space, emotions and exclusion. This special Southeast Asia Seminar will take place at 2pm in the Fellows' Dining Room on Tuesday 22 November. All are welcome.

Wingwalking for MS

Cathy Ridge-Collins, a longstanding member of St Antony's Stewarding team, will be wingwalking on the 22 of April, 2017 in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

In her own words: "I was diagnosed with MS in 2008, I am very lucky to have it very mild. I am doing a wing walk to raise money for the MS Society, and have a goal of £1,000."

Further information about the cause, as well as information on how to support, can be found on Cathy's Just Giving page.

Psychological Tools and Traps in Negotiations

"We all negotiate on a daily basis - but are we fully aware of the biases which affect our decisions? The Oxford Negotiation Society has the pleasure to invite you to a highly interactive discussion with Professor Siedel, who will take you through a crash-course on how to avoid psychological traps and what are the best tools to achieve this."

George Siedel is the Williamson Family Professor of Business Administration and the Thurnau Professor of Business Law at the University of Michigan. He teaches negotiation at Michigan's Ross School of Business and around the world to business leaders, entrepreneurs, attorneys, physicians, athletic directors and judges.

The event will take place on Tuesday 22 November, at 5pm in the Pichette Auditorium, Pembroke College. All are welcome, please do indicate interest on the Facebook event page here.
