London Chef Dan Hayes and Garrison Bistro Chef Drew Still - am I a lucky woman! 

The past two days have been truly wonderful! We were able to visit Whistler for my very first ever Whistler Cornucopia Wine Festival!
It was one I have wanted to attend for many years but this time of year has never allowed...this year we were able to "get away" as it landed during the week and one of my most admired winemakers, Michael Bartier was hosting a 6 course luncheon paired with the cuisine of Dan Hayes, owner of The London Chef! 

Michael wowed us with his wines and Chef Dan with his cuisine as we dined and enjoyed one of my faves...Michaels' wines!

We look forward to Michael joining us on Friday, Dec 16th to pour his wines and share his wealth of knowledge.. 3-6pm that day!

Also, we were able to enjoy one of Michaels' first...a Riesling (my fave) for a brand new release! Delicious!

Kalala 2014 Harmony White $16.51 +taxes 
ORGANIC
Medium bodied blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Auxerrois. Guava and grapefruit flavours dominate with a lovely herbal undertone. This aromatic blend has a tropical nose and palate, full of ripe passion fruit, grapefruit, and guava with just a hint of minerality. It is just slightly off-dry with vibrant acidity and a lingering finish. Each varietal in this fruit-forward blend was fermented with a specific yeast in stainless steel to ensure the fruit characteristics were brought to the forefront. Each wine was filtered on its own and then went through extensive blending trials with the Kalala team to achieve the perfect summer-sipping wine. ORGANIC.

Kalala 2015 Sauvignon Blanc
ORGANIC~ BRAND NEW IN STORE
Light oak, aromas and flavours of vanilla, caramel, dragonfruit and lemon peel. Smooth, buttery mouth feel. Try with semi-soft mild goat and cow cheese or herb-crusted halibut.

Kalala 2012 Aspire $26.08 +taxes 
ORGANIC
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah with aromas and flavours of plum and cherry.  Abundant tannins would suggest decanting before serving with heartier foods such as roast duck and rabbit casserole with an apricot or prune sauce. The three components of the blend were crafted so that they could stand alone. The Merlot was processed first, where the Cab and Syrah were crushed and cold-stored for 4 weeks to get additional colour and phenolic extractions. The Merlot was aged in French and the Cab and Syrah in American oak.

Kalala Dostana 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon $45.21 +taxes 
ORGANIC
We are the only VQA store to get this beautiful, rich Cab. “Happiness only exists when shared. With this philosophy, we took the finest, organic grapes from the gravelly soils of the Okanagan Valley and created wines to be shared with those you love…in celebration of Dostana, Hindi for friendship. A very “old world”- style Cabernet with ripe fruit, robust tannins, and great weight on the palate. Age worthy for at least 3-5 years. Pair this with rich stews, game meat, and peppercorn steak.

Kalala Dostana 2012 Merlot $31.30 +taxes 
ORGANIC
This full-bodied Merlot is complex and displays aromas and flavours of currant, black cherry, plum, clove, and peppercorn. Long, smoky finish with sweet wood and vanilla.

Bordertown 2015 Gruner Veltliner $20.86 +taxes 
CLUB SPW WINE
Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s gift to the wine world. Bordertown is one of its few producers in the Okanagan, and even then, our plantings are very limited, so this is a rare treat indeed. Our Grüner blends aromas of pineapple and honey with a tinge of minerality, followed by flavours of white peach and apricot. It has generous weight and a rich texture on the palate, with a delicious, persistent finish. BC VQA Certified.

Volcanic Hills 2014 Pinot Gris $18.25 +taxes 
STAFF FAVOURITE
AThis dry, un-oaked Pinot Gris is pale straw in color with aromas of Anjou pear, apple skin, citrus and mineral with notes of floral and spice. The palate is very fresh, with a blend of pear, apple and rounding out with a lemon/mineral citrus finish. Pinot Gris is also known as Pinot Grigio (in Italy) - it’s the same grape, but the difference is the style of wine making. When called Pinot Gris, it may be oaked or un-oaked but when called Pinot Grigio it is usually un-oaked. Enjoy with most seafood, creamy pasta dishes, white meats also try with soft cheese.

Volcanic Hills 2013 Magma Red $16.51 +taxes 
It’s fruity, with aromas of plum, plump cherry, earthiness with a little touch of pepper, spice and vanilla. On the palate it’s bursting with dark cherry and plum with just a touch of black pepper on the finish. An easy going red for any dinner table. Great with bbq’s, spaghetti and meatballs, stews and casseroles, chicken parmesan, lamb, game, venison and roasts. Best consumed within 3-4 years of vintage. Blend: Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Marechal Foch, and Merlot. 

Bordertown 2014 Cabernet Franc 
BRAND NEW IN STORE
Once known chiefly as a component grape for classic Bordeaux blends, it has now broken out on its own and is loved for its unique charms. These include deep expressive flavours of tobacco, dark spice, herbaceous green pepper, and a tiny hint of mint. All of this is achieved while maintaining supple tannins and dark berry flavours. The finish is pleasant and lengthy.

Bordertown 2014 Living Desert Red $24.34 +taxes 
BEST SELLER
This SIGNATURE BLEND is comprised of the finest blocks of CABERNET FRANC, MERLOT and CABERNET SAUVIGNON. on the estate which were cropped low and meticulously farmed. Various lots were AGED SEPARATELY in a combination of new and seasoned FRENCH OAK barrels. It showcases aromas and flavours of RED and BLACK FRUITS, DARK CHOCOLATE, SANDALWOOD, and the WILD HERBS that grow amongst this region’s vineyards. ENJOY NOW with rich red meat dishes or CELLAR FOR UP TO 8 YEARS.

Cassini 2013 Cabernet Merlot

$23.47 +taxes
STAFF FAVOURITE

The wine has a rich dark luscious black-ruby colour. Nice strong balanced aromas of blackberry, cherry and spicy notes with underlying tones of gameness and floral hints. Nice round tannins with subtle hints tobacco and vanilla with a nice mineral finish. Staff and customer favourite alike! Pairs well with, barbecued pork, marinated leg of lamb, roast beef, chorizo, prime rib, peppercorn steaks, chorizo, mild and strong cheeses.
