Omega-3 Fatty Acids Support Heart Health

Optomega®                                           BiOmega™

Optomega®
  • A blend of essential fatty acids from organic flax seed, sunflower, pumpkin, and olive oils.
  • A significant and balanced source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Perfect to pour into sauces, soups, salads, and shakes.
BiOmega™
  • High-quality, ultra-pure fish oil supplement.
  • Provides advanced and guaranteed levels of EPA and DHA, two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids important for healthy brain function.
  • Supports sound cardiovascular health.

Omega-3s are found in many fish oils,
but did you know that shrimp were also
 heart healthy?

One of the most desirable aspects of shrimp is its omega-3 fat content. Just four ounces of shrimp provides about 325 -375 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids, including about 50% EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and 50% DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). EPA and DHA are especially important omega-3s for cardiovascular and nervous system health.

Shrimp & Papaya Quesadillas

Single Serving Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Hand peeled shrimp – 100g/person
  • ½ small onion, finely diced, per person
  • ¼ cup diced papaya, per person
  • 1/3 cup shredded soy cheddar or mozzarella, per person
  • 3 tbsp. grapeseed oil (2 tbsp. + 1 tbsp.)
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • Large tortilla wraps (approx. 12”)

Directions:

  • Sauté diced onion in 2 tbsp. grapeseed oil over medium-high heat until they begin to brown and caramelize.  Remove onions from pan. Preserve oil for sautéing shrimp.
  • Add shrimp to oil and sauté over medium-high heat. If necessary, you may add more oil. Add 1 tbsp. lemon juice and sauté for another 1-2 mins.
  • In a separate pan over medium-high heat, lightly oil pan and place wrap in pan, layer shrimp, papaya, onion and cheese in one half of the wrap. Fold over and cover. Cook until cheese melts.
  • If serving more than one person, place quesadillas on baking sheet in oven at 250* to keep warm while preparing other quesadillas.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

How about forgetting the bad news altogether?

It has become a compulsion and addiction in today's society to be abreast of breaking news as it happens; be it about politics, the economy, the weather or Hollywood's latest gossip. When we subscribe to this sensationalized channel of media we are signing ourselves up for an overdose of toxic information: the good, the bad and the ugly. This can negatively affect our mental, emotional and physical health more than we know.

Being that February is American Heart Month it is only fitting that we proactively choose actions that nurture our hearts emotionally and support our mental state.

For starters, consider reducing, limiting or eliminating exposure altogether. If that sounds too drastic consider trying a 24 hour "fast”, and then try 2 days…challenge yourself to see how long you can go without immersing yourself in the negative news cycle. Rest assured, the important information will continue to find its way to you, either via a neighbour or a pop news radio station.
