EDITORIAL
En breve comenzamos en el colegio los exámenes del primer semestre.
El objetivo de estos exámenes, que los alumnos deben hacer desde el tercer grado de Educación Primaria, no es solamente para cumplir con un requisito de, Ministerio de Educación, es con los exámenes semestrales que los profesores detectamos el grado de comprensión de los contenidos esenciales de cada una de las materias que los alumnos han ido adquiriendo en estos meses.
Todos los educadores sabemos que los contenidos que se han tratado anteriormente pueden olvidarse, por lo que aprovechamos estos exámenes para repasar en profundidad.
¿Y qué deben hacer los estudiantes para enfrentarse con éxito a estos exámenes? No existe ninguna regla milagrosa, el éxito viene con el esfuerzo.
Desde hoy mismo, aún nos queda un mes para comenzar los exámenes, los alumnos deben dedicar un tiempo al estudio de los conocimientos y repaso de los ejercicios realizados en estos meses.
Es muy conveniente volver a contestar las preguntas de los exámenes que ya hicieron en cada una de las cuatro unidades vistas hasta ahora.
No es aconsejable dejarlo para los días anteriores, pues solo se consigue entremezclar los contenidos y llegar al examen agotado. El apoyo de los padres es necesario para llegar al éxito.
Estamos a tiempo, a estudiar con ánimo, el esfuerzo tiene su recompensa. SER MEJORES cada día es nuestra meta.

Aprendemos en un mundo digital
Los niños y jóvenes de hoy en día, la “era digital”, tienen diferentes necesidades de conocimiento y aptitudes de los de las generaciones previas.
En el SEK, constantemente nos actualizamos conforme a estas necesidades. Con esto pretendemos que los alumnos aprendan de manera dinámica, llevando la educación al ambiente del niño y joven de hoy.
Los alumnos de nuestro colegio disfrutan de pizarras interactivas en todos los salones de clases, iPads con aplicaciones educativas para las diferentes asignaturas, una moderna red inalámbrica, asegurando la conectividad y movilidad en todas las áreas del colegio, equipos All-In-One Touch de última generación en el salón de computación, introducción de diseño gráfico computarizado en las clases de artes, para los alumnos del bachillerato, introducción de programación y robótica en la asignatura de computación.
En la actualidad se están preparando los salones para realidad virtual y video-conferencia. A través de la realidad virtual, los alumnos tendrán acceso a un sin número de herramientas, entre las que podemos numerar:
- Visitas guiadas a diferentes lugares.
- Simulaciones en 3D.
- Clases tridimiensionales.
- Juegos educativos.
Con las video-conferencias, los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de intercambiar ideas y opiniones con otros alumnos SEK, recibir docencia a distancia de otros profesores, ayudando esto a garantizar el intercambio y enriquecimiento cultural del alumnado.
Confiamos que con el uso de estas herramientas, los alumnos podrán desarrollar sus capacidades plenamente y serán exitosos en este mundo global actual y futuro.

SEK Las Americas celebrated its First Open Day and 20 years in the Dominican Republic.
With the purpose of exchanging information between family and school, on the development of the academic course and the academic progress of each of the students, we celebrate each year our Open Days. This year, with special reason for the 20th anniversary in the Dominican Republic.
The traditional "Open Days" are prepared with great enthusiasm by the teaching team. Parents have the opportunity to talk and exchange views with the different teachers, about the state of the learning process of their children and about those aspects that they consider can improve their academic performance. At the same time, evaluate all the effort and work done during the first period of the year.
This year was a very special one: commemorating 20 years of commitment. All of SEK family gathered to enjoyed a beautiful ballet and musical presentation from the students and then sang happily around the beautiful cake, with its twenty lighted candles, while the school's choir sang "Happy Birthday SEK Las Americas".
An exciting day for us all!

We love our artwork
Kinder and Pre-K had so much fun during our craft and paint classes, using different kinds of materials to create beautiful paintings and crafts. The classes have had lots of fun during these days by drawing, mixing, painting and cutting because they know when they are creating their work of art, it is not that easy but they try hard and the best of it is that they do it among friends.
Why do we love our artworks? Because art reminds us there is something more to life than just being. That all experiences and emotions (even the worst of them), can be made beautiful. We love art because it teaches us what being human really means. Art is an expression of your life and memories and art fills our life with inspiration.
This week in art classes we started to work with Christmas we hope our kids and their families enjoy the process of making something special for the holidays.

It is always fun to learn new things
Learning is the process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something, but for children Playing is one of the main ways in which they learn.
It helps to build self-worth by giving a child a sense of his or her own abilities and to feel good about themselves. Because it’s fun, children often become very absorbed in what they are doing. In turn, this helps them develop the ability to concentrate.
It's important that learning is fun at this age. It needs to be about doing things with them that they like to do and enjoy so much without let them to get bored. They might find unusual ways of doing things, Show them how things work is very important, but if they want to experiment, let them.
Every child needs to learn that learning can be as enjoyable as play, that´s why we use different kind of resources that teach our students in the best way. Based on the age, level of skill, and interest, you can choose from a variety of educational activities for example: doing interactive games on the digital board, using blocks not for making towers and the easiest way painting without paintbrush. Whether it is reading activities or art and craft activities, there is always something for everybody.

St John's Swimming Pool Grand Opening!
We were delighted to welcome Dr Jorge Segovia (President of IES) and Mr Andrew McEwen (Chairman of IES) to St John's on Friday to formally open the new St John's Swimming Pool.
The pool was originally an outdoor only pool but has been completely refurbished and given a fully retracting telescopic roof - meaning it can now be used all year round.
This considerable investment reflects IES' commitment to St John's. We would like to thank IES for their continued support and we are delighted that Dr Segovia and Mr McEwen were here for the official opening.

Strawberry Picking
What a lovely family day the EC class had this week when they went to the strawberry farm. The classes have been finding out about fruits, vegetables and how plants grow. The children enjoyed looking closely at the strawberry plants and obviously tasting the delicious fruit!

La Universidad Internacional SEK inauguró la Escuela de Práctica Jurídica, conformada por el Rector de la UISEK, el Decano y Director de la Carrera de Derecho más seis juristas de reconocida trayectoria nacional e internacional como el Dr. Juan Antonio Toro, quien además y en conjunto con el Dr. Alfonso Algora (rector UISEK) lanzaron oficialmente en el mismo acto su libro "Oratoria Práctica", el cual recoge técnicas prácticas para el desempeño de esta disciplina ante los tribunales además de un recorrido histórico y un análisis de las legislaciones en la materia en España y Ecuador.
