Grantsmanship workshops for faculty and postdocs only:

·         PI Development Series— The PI Development Series introduces PIs to an array of helpful topics relating to their responsibilities in conducting and overseeing research projects at UNC-CH. The audience for this series is faculty and postdocs only who are PIs or who are about to be new PIs. Modules include:

Being Better Faculty Research Mentors (BBFRM)—for faculty only: Sponsored by CFE and NC TraCS, BBFRM is intended for faculty members interested in improving their mentoring relationships with their mentees (mentees can be postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates, or even other junior faculty members) to help these different groups of mentees be successful researchers in their stages of careers. BBFRM consists of 8 1-hour sessions and engages a broad discipline of faculty researchers, emphasizing the importance of inclusive mentoring throughout the curriculum. You must be willing to commit to all 8 sessions to participate in the program.

The next BBFRM training will occur in April 2017. If interested, complete this form to let us know of your availability in April 2017.

·         Summer Writing Group (SWG) Program Orientation (for faculty only): SWG Program brings together faculty members from all disciplines and career stages in small groups to help spur writing productivity and foster cross-disciplinary connections. The SWG Program begins with an orientation meeting in May that allows interested faculty members to meet with the groups to which they have been assigned on the basis of their expressed preferences. Groups meet regularly throughout the summer at times that suit them and have the freedom to structure their writing group activities as they wish.

SWG Orientation will be on: Friday, May 5, 2017, 12pm-2pm (lunch included), in the Pleasants Room in Wilson Library (on 1st floor of Wilson near grand entrance). Click here to register for the Orientation.

Faculty also can email me for one-on-one consultations about grants, developing individual development plans (IDPs), P/T documents, and other possible research-related faculty development needs.

Good Clinical Practice training that is more relevant to the Social and Behavioral Researcher PI and clinical trial staff involved in all new and ongoing clinical trials is now available on the UNC School of Social Work web page. This training meets the requirements set forth in the new policy on GCP Training for NIH-Funded Clinical trials which becomes effective January 1, 2017.

To learn more about the New Policy on GCP Training for NIH-Funded Clinical Trials, see https://tracs.unc.edu/index.php/who-we-are/announcements/660-new-policy-on-gcp-training-for-nih-funded-clinical-trials

and in the summer

Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 8 am-4 pm

Learn more and REGISTER for the Feb. 22 conference

Held again at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill, the all-day event will celebrate and explore issues related to the UNC-Chapel Hill academic theme, Food for All, with a focus on child hunger.

The NC Child Hunger Leaders Conference convenes those engaged in addressing child hunger throughout North Carolina. It is a time for finding new partnerships and collaborating with community, education, agency and other diverse leaders--all working together to create a brighter future for North Carolina's children.

Child hunger is solvable. Join the conversation.

Topics to discuss:

image001 Are we winning the war on child hunger?

image001 Can school food become a culinary experience?

image001 How can we possibly do more to reach more kids?

More than 1 in 4 children in North Carolina have insufficient food to grow and be active. No Kid Hungry North Carolina is a partnership launched in 2011 with the national nonprofit Share Our Strength and state leaders to connect children with under-utilized federal nutrition programs. No Kid Hungry NC became a part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014.

We hope to see you at the conference.
