Christmas Greetings from Genus
2016 was another excellent year for Genus and we thank all of our clients for their support in helping us achieve that success.
Microfilm sales are still incredibly strong with four brand new and substantial microfilm installations completed in 2016 plus many more customers transferring to the new Fuji Archive Writer film. In addition we were happy to report on the German Archivesand how they store all of their important state documents on microfilm, in steel containers, 100m below the Schauinsland mountain in the Black Forest.
2016 also saw the launch of the Scannx range of public use book scanners in the UK and the launch of our very own diazo range, all manufactured, slit and packaged in the UK – the famous Ozaphan M Black diazo is back – in 2017 we will actively be looking for international distributors.
New product launches are planned for 2017 and we look forward to letting you know about those very soon.
In the meantime have a very Merry festive season and a Happy New Year.

What would Christmas be without trees tangled up in tinsel and fairy lights? A range of different trees are grown across the world destined to become bauble-laden Christmas trees, from Douglas firs to Norwegian spruces to Virginia pines. All of these trees belong to the Pine family (Pinacaea) of conifer trees but how long have these festive flora lived on our planet and how did they evolve?
My family has recently uncovered our family copy of Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management dating from 1888, so I thought that I would share some images of our copy, and of the festive recipes.
One of the best parts of researching archives is discovering unusual accounts where they are least expected, and Christmas festivities are no exception. I recently came across this description of Christmas celebrations in All Saints Lunatic Asylum in the mid Victorian period, shortly after Dickens published ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 1843.
