Improving people's health and well-being through improving the environment

Winter Newsletter
Our senses have been overloaded this autumn with beautiful colours, sounds and smells, not to mention the bountiful harvest of fruits and vegetables our taste buds have been enjoying.

We've been very very busy - but we wanted to make the most of the light and warmth before the nights draw in and the frosts take their hold. We've been running five weekly adult groups, 4 as part of the Outdoors Active and Well project, worked in 8 primary schools over the year and run 3 community projects. No wonder we're all ready to hibernate!

Follow us on Twitter, Instagram or Like us on Facebook to receive weekly posts about what we're up to and where we've been.
We'd love to gather some feedback about how things have been for you this year, so please click the button below to complete a short survey - Thanks

One evening, two great events...
Case study: 'Grow Together'

The group started off in July this year, after forming a partnership with drug and alcohol service Forward Leeds. It is one of our 4 weekly Outdoors Active and Well groups promoting regular outdoor activities with a focus on mental health.

'Grow Together' has a few functions:
  • Firstly to offer people the opportunity to come together, share and learn skills, improve their health and get to know each other, whilst creating a beautiful and productive space.
  • Secondly to offer people in 'Sustained Recovery' an alternative to more conventional talking therapies, as part of their recovery plan.
  • Lastly to create a manual, inspired by Permaculture Design for a 6-9 week course for other similar services (to Forward Leeds) to use in their clients recovery.
"You can really see how much it means to the group, how they are simultaneously building confidence and new friendships, having fun, learning brand new skills and already taking real ownership of the project."
Claire Doble (Forward Leeds Volunteer & Co-facilitator )

Get involved!

We're in full swing with our new project - Outdoors Active and Well with four weekly community garden groups, based across the city.
So if you've been indoors, inactive and not feeling great then get in touch!

We have opportunities to gain experience working with a range of people, learn skills such as mosaic, joinery, gardening and community consultation. Improve your confidence, meet new people and help your local community.

We also have support volunteer roles available:
  • Supporting adults during the Outdoors Active and Well sessions
  • Supporting the kids groups (which will re-start in February)
  • Supporting with more practical tasks e.g. joinery, surveying, construction
Contact Behla our volunteer coordinator to find out more.
