NAC Legacy Campaign
NAC is a non profit facility that is built on donations for equipment, scholarships, boat house improvements and other things. As you look back upon your time at the NAC, how did you give back to the boat house? If you spent 4 years here during high school, what type of impact did the NAC have on you during your school years? If you've been here since the beginning (which I know a lot of you have!!), how have you grown as the NAC grew? The NAC is always extremely grateful and appreciative the donations that are received and the help that is given. The NAC wouldn't be where it is today, without the help of their supportive members and friends. We have had great supporters over the years, and continue to have great relationships with those donors.

We aren't asking you to donate right now, we are asking you to look back and think about your time at the NAC. What has it meant to you? Have you had a chance to give back to the NAC? Maybe not in a monetary way, but maybe you came down to help with junior program, or attended a back bay clean up! Whatever it is, or whatever it was, we hope that you want to continue giving back to the NAC.

The NAC Legacy Fund is an annual "pay-it-forward" fundraising campaign established in 2016 by the newly formed NAC Alumni Association, to ensure that incoming athletes enjoy high quality programs and equipment opportunities. In recognition of the fact that the program quality, and equipment availability for current athletes and members is made possible by donations made in previous years, the Alumni Association was created with the goal of contributing a minimum of $100,000 per year for equipment, scholarships, capital improvements and participation year round.

If the way you want to give back is with a donation, small or large, you can go ahead and take a look at the Legacy Fund campaign that we have set up! You can make it a one time or a monthly reoccurring donation also!
NAC Outrigger and NAC Rowing both had races this weekend

La Jolla Shores Invitational
NAC had a great turn out for our first "on the road" race this weekend! Something that really stood out to our coaches and all our adult paddlers is the way our junior paddlers were so supportive of each other.

NAC had 4, 14U Junior Paddlers competing in the 2 mile course race through the open ocean. Everyone extremely impressed on how these four Junior Athletes braved the elements and competed in their first open ocean course!

For the first race we also had a large showing in the 5 mile course, that went up the coast and circled back around. This course made it exciting to watch our Junior Paddlers! All our paddlers did extremely well in their races in the 5 mile course on Saturday. NAC Junior Outrigger had a 2nd place in 19U Boys, a 2nd and a 3rd place in 16U boys, and a 3rd place in a very impacted 16U girls divisoin.

The 9.5 mile long course had junior paddlers battling it out against most of the adults on that beach that day! It was hot, flat, and didn't have much surf to help the paddlers back to the finish line. But the two guys did AWESOME. NAC Junior Outrigger had a first place in the 16U division and a 2nd place in the 19U division.

We will add photos to that all season long.
We have also updated our website with information on the next race: http://newportaquaticcenter.com/programs/nac-junior-outrigger-team/nac-junior-outrigger-race-schedule-and-results/

As for our adult team racers, and our NAC Members - we had a huge NAC showing in the adult categories!
NAC Member Toni Bushong (pictures above) placed 1st in the Golden Masters division, while NAC Members Brent Campbell and Renae Jackson both place 2nd in the surfksi open division in the 9.5 mile course for male and female. Heidi Alonso and Ellen Netzer raced in a two man and placed first in the masters category during the 9.5 mile course!
It was a great day to be an NAC Member and paddler!

San Diego Fall Classic
San Diego Fall Classic was attended by a large group of NAC Junior Rowers and Adult rowers! Another great race to be a member of the NAC!

The WOW ladies raced an 8+, 2 4+s and a 4x yesterday on a very warm, sunny day on Mission Bay. The 8+ raced hard and ended up with the 2nd best raw time! (Adjusted time placed them in 4th, but coach prefers looking at the raw time). The 4+s did really well too - the Arista also posted the 2nd fastest raw time (4th adjusted), while the Cicada raced to a hard fought 6th place. Last but not least the 4x finished with the fastest time! Congrats to all who raced!!!

The Men’s (MOW - Men on the water!) 4x had the 3rd fastest raw time, and ended up 5th place with handicap applied.  The winning men’s 4x  handicap was 3 minutes and 14 seconds and our guys handicap was 17 seconds!

The NAC Varsity boys had another strong showing at the San Diego Fall Classic last weekend, racing in even lineups and posting the second and third fastest times in the Men's Junior 8+'s with all the boats besting their equivalent competitors in the field (our 6th varsity 8+ also finished ahead of five "A" entries!). The race course prevented a number of challenges with numerous buoys, speeding ski boats and jet skis, and few referees on the water to help control or direct crews and other traffic. Despite the challenging and often "wavy" water, the boys did a great job putting up strong performances in all their races and are looking forward to transitioning into Winter training having some motivating experiences racing this Fall.
An excellent showing for the novice girls. A big congratulations to our coxswains- one of our first years not hitting anything, anyone or missing a turn. This is more of an obstacle course than a head race- way to go! Our rowers showed excellent depth as well. We placed 2nd in the A 8+, and our B,C and D boats beat all other 2nd tier boats for the day.  Our 4s also had a strong showing with our A 4+ bringing home bronze medals!

Every year we send paddlers, especially the Junior Outrigger Team, from NAC to race at the Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Race! We sure had a blast over at Kona, HI this summer. Got to jump in the warm water, eat some poke bowl, see some manta rays, and a lot more!
POLICY REMINDER:
