A new hospice for Cambridgeshire

November 2016 marks a milestone in the history of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity with the opening of a brand new £10.5M hospice for Cambridgeshire patients at Shelford Bottom, near Cambridge. The state-of-the-art facility will allow the charity to treat and support almost twice as many patients as was possible in their former home on Mill Road in the heart of the city.

The Evelyn Trust is proud to be one of the major donors to the project and has funded what is now to be named the Evelyn Trust Day Therapy Centre.

Coming soon – the Evelyn Trust Research Endoscopy Suite

The £18.5M five-story expansion of the Addenbrooke’s Clinical Research Centre is set to open in Spring 2017. It has been jointly funded by the University of Cambridge, the Wellcome Trust and the Evelyn Trust, which will donate £1 million to fund the Evelyn Trust Research Endoscopy Suite.

Funding the next generation of medical researchers

The Evelyn Trust has a history of supporting brilliant young medical researchers via its Research Training Fellowship programme. Dr Peter Bailey, a Respiratory Registrar at Papworth Hospital, has been drawn to an academic career with the aim of becoming a ‘clinician scientist’ in the field of respiratory disease.

Filling the counselling gap

Over the last three years, the Evelyn Trust has been funding Cambridgeshire’s Cogwheel Trust to develop their counselling services as a training ground for the next generation of counselling professionals. Its services fill a significant gap in mental health service provision locally.

A personal view from retiring Trustee: Julian Agnew

It is 13 years since the sale of the Evelyn Hospital, the endowment of the Evelyn Trust with the proceeds and the beginning of its great work in grant funding medical research and social projects in and around Cambridge.

Julian reflects on these years well spent on the Board of the Trust, the satisfaction of achievement and the local challenges still to be tackled.

Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital opens on the former Evelyn Hospital site

In September, trustee Amy Agnew attended the opening of the elegant new Nuffield Health hospital in Trumpington Road, Cambridge, on the site of the original Evelyn nursing home, endowed by Morland Agnew, Amy’s great-great-grandfather.
