Lew Wallace Hoosier Author Fair

Saturday, November 26, 1 - 4 pm

Come join me and four other Indiana authors for a cozy author fair!

I'll be hanging out and signing books with biographer and historian Ray E. Boomhower, inspirational author Kelly O'Dell Stanley, fantasy writer and dog-training expert Laura VanArendonk Baugh, and leadership coach Tim Timmons.

We'll all have copies of our books for sale, and there will be plenty of time to chat.

I'll also be selling copies of my grandmother's recently-published nonfiction book, New Richmond, Indiana: A History of the Greatest Little Town on Earth.

Join us at the General Lew Wallace Study & Museum in Crawfordsville! The fair will be in the yellow Carriage House Interpretive Center. For GPS purposes, use the address 202 Elston Avenue, Crawfordsville 47933. That will get you to the parking lot inside the brick wall surrounding the museum.

Blog Posts and Book Recs

I've made a couple of posts about Shades of Circle City lately, and if you don't follow my blog, you might have missed some fun behind-the-scenes stuff about my latest novel!

God is in the detail - Here I talk about several of the real-life locations I've used to flesh out the Indianapolis of Shades of Circle City.

Shades of Circle City Playlist - A Spotify playlist of a few of the songs I listened to while writing and revising Shades.

Book Recs:

If you've enjoyed Shades of Circle City, you might also like Circles and Crossroads by my friend Laura VanArendonk Baugh. Laura’s main character, Robin Archer, is a half-Fae, and has a unique way of looking at the world. But Robin also has a soft heart under the snarky exterior, and I always enjoy spending time in Robin’s Indianapolis.

I was fortunate enough to serve as a beta-reader for Garrett Hutson's debut mystery, In a Safe Town. When Tom Stafford is found stabbed to death in the woods outside of Heron, the town is thrown into shock and disbelief. Sheriff Mark Bennett, up for re-election in just six weeks, must solve the crime quickly. Over the course of the investigation, Mark uncovers parallels with the county’s last homicide, still unsolved after twenty-one years. This is a well-constructed mystery set in 1982 in the hills of southeastern Indiana. It is full of the flavor and voice of this time and region, on the edge of the South and the Midwest. It is a mystery, but with cross-over appeal to fans of YA and gay & lesbian fiction.

On my TBR Pile:
  • The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Frederick Stonehouse - I've always loved the song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. This month marks the 41st anniversary of the sinking, so I started reading this on November 10. (I'm reading the 30th anniversary edition, but the book was updated last year, so I may have to look up that one as well.)
  • Praying Upside Down by Kelly O'Dell Stanley - To my shame, I bought this when it was first released and only got halfway through. Not because it isn't good, but because I--squirrels! >.> I want to buy the sequel when I see Kelly, whose blog has been incredibly helpful to me this year.
  • Goldenhand by Garth Nix - I always love returning to the Abhorsen series.
  • The Trees Between by Christine Calhoun - I was next to Christine at the ACPL Author Fair and can't wait to dive into this!
  • This Is What I See...The Sides of Dan by Dan Williams - Another book I bought after the ACPL Author Fair.

Thanks so much for your interest in the stories I'm making up!

See you next month!
Stephanie
