The DRCET offfice will close on
Wednesday 21 December and re-open on Monday 9 January 2017 and De’ils On Wheels community bike workshop will close on
Thursday 22 December and re-open on Thursday 5 January 2017.
Our projects and services...
A big thank-you to all our volunteers: From Jan to Nov 2016 a total of 1032 volunteer hours (including 146 hours in July) were contributed by 32 volunteers (including 16 new volunteers) in 17 different volunteer roles. 15 of the volunteers were able to come along to our Christmas lunch, a small token of our thanks for all their hard work.
Bikes for Sale: De’ils On Wheels sells a range of quality reused bikes at affordable prices – you can view our latest available stock – complete with a 30 day sales promise! We also offer bike repairs and servicing and are offering a Bike Build Service in time for Christmas at just £10.
Upcycled Gifts now available: At DRCET and De’ils On Wheels we like to recycle and reuse as much as we can and are delighted to offer a range of upcycled gifts – just in time for Christmas! You can get your hands on our great gifts at local Xmas Fayres on Thu 15 Dec 4-6.30pm at DRC Youth Project, Yoker Community Campus and Fri 16 & Sat 17 Dec 12-2.30pm at Heart of Scotstoun.
Kingsway community garden is Outstanding!: Kingsway Court Community Garden was recently awarded a Level 5 Outstanding certificate at this year’s It’s Your Neighbourhood awards. Well done to all our green-fingered gardeners!
WH Malcolm appeal update: The campaign against the
proposed development of a gasification plant by WH Malcolm at their South Street site has been moving very slowly. The report will be submitted to the Minister early in the New Year and
they hope a decision will be reached by April 2017 at the latest!
Community Calendar: Our community calendar lists a mix of
our own activities and services and other community events and activities many of which are in the G11, G13, G14 and G15 post code areas.
Green Gym: The West Glasgow Green Gym are on a break until January. Dates for the New Year will be on our blog and in our January eNews so keep your eyes peeled!

Drumchapel Cycle Hub Santa Bike Dash: Wrap up warm for the
Drumchapel Cycle Hub’s Santa bike dash Christmas fundraiser from
11am to 1pm on Fri 23 Dec at Drumchapel Park. Get on your bike or borrow one! All participants will receive a medal and a mince pie!
Play on Pedals instructional video: a series of instructional videos for getting young children cycling have been produced by Play on Pedals and Cycling Scotland. You can watch the series over at Cycling Scotland’s YouTube channel.
Client Earth wins air pollution legal case: In a damning indictment of ministers’ inaction on killer air pollution, Mr Justice Garnham agreed with ClientEarth that the Environment Secretary
had failed to take measures that would bring the UK into compliance with the law “as soon as possible”.
Baillie Liz Cameron to stand down as Councillor: Labour Party stalwart Liz Cameron has announced
she will not be standing again in May's council election.
Sustrans Scotland Volunteer of the Year: We were delighted that the Award went to
Alasdair Macdonald, the volunteer ranger and coordinator for the Glasgow area. We have worked closely with Alasdair along with the West Glasgow Green Gym.
Park recognised with top UK title: Rouken Glen Park in East Renfrewshire which was originally gifted to the people of Glasgow in 1906
was named the UK's Best Park of 2016.
Locate your nearest grit bin: Glasgow City Council have details about their winter maintenance plan on their website. They have also
created an online map of all the grit bins in the City.

First Scotstoun Clean Up of the New Year! : Scotstoun Community Council are holding
their first community clean up of the New Year on Saturday 14 January with volunteers meeting at
Cafe Taste on Dumbarton Road.
Under One Roof website launched: The Government has recently launched a new website aimed at
providing impartial advice on repairs and maintenance for flat owners in Scotland.
Council grants lease to amateur football club in Drumchapel: Approval has been given for a 25 year lease to Drumchapel United Football Club at Halgreen Playing Field. This will allow the club
which plays a vital role for the local community and beyond to move to the next stage of their development.
SPT sustainable transport survey: Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has been awarded funding to look at
opportunities to improve walking and cycling to/at public transport interchanges. You can
input to the project by
participating in this survey and also have a chance of winning £25.
Adopt-a-bed scheme: Gartnavel Growing Spaces is offering you the chance to
adopt one of the garden beds at the Gartnavel Royal Hospital site to grow your own produce. Closing date for applicants (who must meet the selection criteria) is
Fri 27 Jan.
