Forever Yours, Marie-Lou, by Michel Tremblay, presents two fragmented stories; one of two sisters arguing about how to move on from tragedy, and one of their parents’ painful argument set 10 years earlier and caused by something as small as burnt toast. Carmen (Liana Brooks) returns home to see her sister, Manon (Elea Regembal), stuck reliving moments from their unfortunate shared history, unable to escape its effect. Simultaneously, yet ten years earlier, devout Christian Marie-Louise (Hope Kelly) and her alcoholic husband Leopold (Andrew Young) begin one of their constant arguments while the kids are asleep down the hall.
Tremblay’s juxtaposed over-lapping dialogue and extreme isolation creates a sense of inter-relatedness between each of the characters and their flaws while maintaining each person’s inner loneliness. This production of Forever Yours, Mare-Lou attempts to bring these themes to the forefront by employing movement -or lack thereof- to enhance the actors’ portrayals of these uniquely flawed individuals which is in stark contrast to the original directions of the play which asked for no movement and no eye contact.
Two conversations in the same room... but ten years apart. With that, Players’ invites you to sit back and enjoy the chaos of family life unfold before you!
