“Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either.”
― Elizabeth Zimmermann

How many of us have been staring at our stitches over the last few weeks, considering the beauty in the metaphor presented between our hands? Our stitches provide a beautiful reminder of togetherness, interconnection, and the need to be whole through the simplicity of fiber links.

Creating gives us peace in so many ways. It is a therapy of mind and body, as we quietly contemplate and work each stitch with our hands. We are doers, we like making progress. We are making something out of what can often look like nothing, and it feels awesome.

In our communities we are the yarn, each of us a potential link. It is love that knits us together, but it takes action to make those needles/hooks of love work. But maybe together we can turn what looks like nothing into something wonderful, or at least something better (we’ve all had to frog something and start over).

Can we come together and form meaningful links within our communities by working love stitches into our lives? Can we be uniters? If we see a dropped stitch will we speak up against injustice? Will we stand linked arm in arm, loop in loop, in our Fair Isle fabric of colors? Can we hold each other up not only through the bulky ease, but also through the lace fragilities that require patience and persistence?

In knitting if you let even just one stitch slip away, it can trigger a chain reaction of loss, and you are left with a divide in your fabric. In knitting, these divides can sometimes be repaired… does the same hold true with regards to our neighbors, states and country? We hope so.

So where are we going with this?

Please join us at Revival Yarns on December 2nd for a special
 First Friday Unity Event.

During both open knit/crochet sessions (10-12 and 5-7) we will be gathering together in support of love and in commitment to being uniters.

We will be doing three things 1) Let's work some "love stitches" by supporting an important local resource! We will be accepting donations (both cash and credit) for The Cottage. If you are not familiar, The Cottage raises awareness and facilitates the healing of individuals, families and communities affected by sexual violence and child abuse. They provide crisis counseling, medical and legal advocacy, and prevention resources all for FREE. They serve survivors of sexual assault from Clarke, Oconee, Madison and Oglethorpe Counties. The Cottage is a non-profit organization and always in need of donations (tax-deductible). Please consider donating a small amount during our special First Friday Unity night.

2) As we wrap up 2016, we invite you to join our collaborative project that will be put on display at Revival Yarns. This piece will be a reminder of the greatness that is the sum of our parts, as we move into a new year. What is it exactly? A free form piece, both knit and crocheted, using different fibers, colors, weights and gauges. We want you to be able to walk into the shop, look up at this piece, see your stitches and know that you are part of a community. We hope each of you can contribute by knitting or crocheting a row or two in this ongoing project. We will have yarn available here, but if you have something at home that you feel like represents you please bring that to add to our unity project. We look forward to seeing how this free form piece takes shape!

3)It is First Friday open knit/crochet after all, so bring your knitting or crochet projects to work on, or just come to chat :)

Light fare will be provided.
We look forward to this positive time of togetherness with you all.
