PARTY TIME ! @ STUDIO XX

We are all still reeling from the US elections, which means that it's an excellent moment to congregate, think about a future, and dance to a vision of a humane and compassionate world.

XX invites one and all to our year end party on Friday November 25th 8pm, featuring DJ Frankie Teardrop.

We have a few  things to celebrate: the closing week of The HTMlles festival & 20 years of feminist XX energy!

Don’t miss it! Frankie Teardrop will turn the white cube of our gallery into a dance floor!

Frankie Teardrop is a DJ, producer, and promoter in Montreal's underground queer party scene. Teardrop runs both LIP, an on-going after-hours that takes place at venues throughout the city, and Slut Island (with partner Ethel Eugene) a  D.I.Y festival that showcases queer and female-identified musicians and Djs.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAM CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2017-2018

Our call for Artist in Residency Projects is now open. To submit a proposal, click here.
Deadline : January 15th, 2017
Information

The work produced by XX’s community, your views of the world, the questions posed, your methods and aesthetics are more urgent than ever because they reflect contemporary social injustices. In a climate marked by the US elections, as well as revelations of sexual abuse in universities, sexual harassment suffered by women in business and politics, and violence against aboriginal women in Canada, it’s clear that women's rights and the rights of marginal communities, are constantly challenged. So it’s more important than ever to support and diffuse feminist practices essential to understanding, and responding to, the complex challenges of our time.

As part of our residency program, Studio XX is pleased to welcome artist Sonia Paço-Rocchia from November 9, 2016 to January 15, 2017. Her project "And after the fixed media? is a multidisciplinary project: web art, sound visual and cyber-performance art.

This project is mainly a research and development project using current Web /Javascript tools to create cyberperformances / cyberconcert / cyberspectacle for an audio web user, as well as to compose pieces using nonlinear, generative forms which can be heard by an internet user.

Since the cyber-performances are done with live-coding, Sonia’s work includes researching other live-coding projects and then creating an online live-coder’s list in order to highlight everyone’s work.
