Ask the Organizer!
Q: Can you suggest something I can give up to make the holiday season less hectic? I want to enjoy it more this year!
A: What a timely question, and yes, yes I can make a suggestion or two.
If you traditionally bake six, eight, or a dozen kinds of cookies but don't enjoy it, pick your favorite one or two and just bake those. Or start a cookie exchange with friends - everyone makes a jumbo batch of their one favorite cookie, and you share with one another.
Don't enjoy sending out holiday cards any more? Stop. You read that right, just STOP. I quit about fifteen years ago and guess what? Nothing bad happened. People are connected virtually in ways we weren't back in the olden days, so the annual holiday card isn't as necessary for staying in touch.
Hate wrapping presents? For cryin' out loud, switch to gift bags and tissue paper! Easy, breezy, lemon squeezy.
Can't decide on the perfect gift for your hard-to-buy-for friends and family? How about a gift card to a favorite restaurant or coffee shop, some movie theater tickets or car wash coupons...
And for the senior citizen who has downsized and doesn't need any more stuff - how about a book of stamps or a gift card to their favorite grocery store? Offer to take them out and enjoy a meal together.
