          Noon dismissal for Thanksgiving!

Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,

We are one week away from celebrating Thanksgiving in our country and in our community.  What a perfect time to count our blessings, look for opportunities to make positive impact, and remain a hopeful people in both word and deed.  It is obvious that our country is experiencing a lot right now.  That impacts the young people that we have the opportunity to work with each day, and I am sure it impacts your family life to some extent as well.  As a Catholic community, it is an opportune time to model and stress with our students and children that they can express their opinions as they work to understand everyone’s uniqueness and diversity.  We all can work to show love and care for one another, speak up for one another, solve conflicts respectfully and grant forgiveness with one another.  It is also a perfect time to model the power of prayer- individual prayer, family prayer, class prayer, and community prayer, such as in our active participation in Mass.
The ASB Student Council and the entire community is being asked to join together to support the parishioners and missionary work of Christ our Hope Parish in downtown Seattle.  Christ our Hope is literally home to a number of low income residents and also the spiritual home to many Catholics of Seattle.  The parish is in need of toiletries, non-perishable food items, and money for Thanksgiving turkeys.  Please donate generously throughout this week and next for this school-wide missionary discipleship outreach.  Bins are located in the entryway of the school and can also be given to classroom teachers.
As part of our Thanksgiving tradition here at ASB, we celebrate Grandparents’ Day on November 23, right before Thanksgiving holiday.  This is a fun-filled day on campus at ASB as we welcome grandparents and grandfriends.  Guests are welcome onto campus at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and light refreshments in the gym.  Our middle school students and student council will be ready to greet and seat our guests and a variety of student groups have prepared a short showcase of entertainment and project-based learning. We will then invite the grandparents to visit the classrooms of their grandchild(ren) or special friend.  In the classrooms, you will find engaging activities going on for everyone to be involved in.  The visit concludes at 11:30, just prior to the 12 noon dismissal.  If your child will be leaving early that day with their grandparent, please email the homeroom teacher directly.  Early dismissal will happen IN the classroom, not the front office.  For safety reasons, we must have this information in writing in order for a child to be released with their grandparent.  The rest of the school will be dismissed at 12 noon.  Please contact the front office if you should have any questions.
As a reminder, it is the time of year that all parishioners are reminded and encouraged to reflect and act upon the annual stewardship pledge to their parishes.  At ASB, we are blessed to have the support of two parishes, Assumption and St. Bridget parishes.  Our school directly benefits through parish subsidy, from your generosity and active participation at your local parish level.  Thank you in advance for your prayerful and generous stewardship to both Assumption and St. Bridget parishes!
Thank you to all of the parent and student ambassadors who were instrumental in making our second Open House of the year a successful day!  Whenever we host these events, it is affirmation to me and hopefully to our prospective families, that the teaching and learning going on at ASB is powerful and impactful to 529 young people and their families. I feel blessed and honored to work alongside all of you at Assumption-St. Bridget School.

In Christ's peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

Want to carpool?
Connect with other ASB families through Pogo
At ASB, we're looking for ways to reduce traffic during drop off and pick up, while helping families connect within the ASB community. That’s why we are excited to be partnering with an award-winning company, Pogo, using their iPhone and Android mobile apps to help you discover families that live near you and connect to carpool.
Please fill out THIS  that lets us know you are interested in connecting with other parents. After you input your basic information and submit the form, all interested ASB parents will receive a text invitation within a week to join the ASB group in Pogo. Simply follow the text to download the free app, and after you create your profile, your invitation will be waiting for you. Or visit the App Store and search “Pogo Rides” to download. You can then search ASB groups and request to join any that are relevant to you. Can’t find the group you want? Start your own! We’ll approve you (only ASB parents, guardians and caregivers can join, so you know it’s secure). Then connect away!
We hope if you decide to use the app that it helps make your family’s life easier--please feel free to share your feedback with us! Email ASB parent and carpool coordinator, Melissa Melia at  and tell us what you think.

Basketball News
Many of our ASB Basketball teams will start their seasons this weekend, please look to the CYO Team Sideline page to investigate your child(ren)'s basketball schedules.  As I register teams with CYO before we have the final list of coaches, there is a chance that some of the coaches assigned to basketball teams are incorrect.  Please make sure that you are in communication with your basketball coach to confirm your team's basketball schedule.  I am working with CYO to correct these discrepancies and hope to have the corrections made to the schedule ASAP.  Good luck to all of the teams that are starting this weekend, below is a link to the basketball schedules:

Basketball uniforms: Basketball uniforms are currently being sorted and organized for distribution.  As soon as uniforms are ready to be distributed, coaches will be contacted with pick-up instructions.
