A Note from Mrs. Yankovich

It takes true courage for a person to risk life and limb for their country.  The least we can do as civilians is honor them.  That is exactly what the Mrs. Ahern and students of John Paul II did this morning at our Veteran's Day mass.  It was a beautiful ceremony brought forth with respect and reverence to those that have served.  We were honored to have many veterans from as far back as World War II up to the most recent conflicts in the Middle East present for our mass and program. Thank you, to all veterans for their sacrifice, dedication and service.  May God bless you all!

Respectfully,

Jenny Yankovich

Box of Joy

"Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord and he will reward them for what they have done." - Proverbs 19:17

With the season of giving upon us, we are proud to announce our next school service project, Boxes of Joy. In conjunction with Cross Catholic Outreach, Stuco will be gathering items  to pack boxes of joy for underprivileged children who do not typically experience a Christmas with any presents. The gifts in these shoebox sized boxes range from small toys, to toiletry items, to small items of clothing. Our goal as a school is to pack 20 boxes. In addition to a small gift from the list provided, we ask that every student provide $1 donation as well.

Box Of Joy week will be from Monday, November 14th-Friday, November 18th. The students can bring the money in an envelope with their name and class, and classroom teachers will have collection boxes where students can drop off donated items.  Thank you in advance for helping us with this worthy cause at this time of the year.

What's Up in Science?

Mrs. Lee's science classes have been quite busy over the past few weeks.  Here are just a few of the cool things they are learning about:

8th Graders explored Newton’s Laws through croquet and balloon rockets.
6th and 7th graders learning about plate tectonics.
6th graders created a bulletin board to introduce their composting project to the school.
5th Graders doing a solar scavenger hunt to learn about the sun.
4th Graders learned about static electricity.
Third graders had some spooky Halloween fun learning about dry ice.
Third grade also enjoyed having 8th graders share their current event article about Painted Lady butterflies.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Have you been wondering why some of the students were carrying rakes into school this week?  The Sixth Grade Class raked leaves on Wednesday morning for both a QHR parishioner and a SPX parishioner as part of their service project.  What a great way to lend a helping hand while enjoying the beautiful weather!
