Due to overwhelming demand, Westside Cultural Arts Center (WCAC) has extended Joseph Guay's latest exhibition, "Remnants of the Human Condition" through Wednesday, November 16. Paying homage to the violence currently appearing in the news, there are pieces that call attention to the details surrounding Trayvon Martin's death, the Boston Marathon bombing, Alton Sterling's death and the Dallas police officer shootings.

Guay’s thought-provoking exhibit, created from bullets, gunpowder, shattered high-rise glass and products of terrorism, will examine the characteristics, events and situations that encompass human existence. “Remnants of the Human Condition” will explore the difficult topics in the media that attempt to sum up the human condition and will allow the audience to experience a differing visual approach that will broaden their views and beliefs. The exhibition is from 6 to 9 p.m. and open to the public.

“We are thrilled to house such a provocative and relevant exhibition at Westside Cultural Arts Center,” said Dr. James L. Chappuis, founder of WCAC. “This, paired with West Midtown’s ever-expanding arts community, adds to our mission to provide Atlanta with a living gallery that supports a rotating collection of local and regional artists.”
“I could no longer pretend the news and the global fear-based reactions of our society were not becoming an overwhelming influence on me. I have no intention to force an opinion on anyone, because I do not have all the answers,” said artist, Joseph Guay. “I would just like people to expand whatever perspective they already have and truly think about the issues at hand.”

About Artist, Joseph Guay:

Joseph Guay was born in Lewiston, Maine in 1971. This self-taught artist’s new series of work titled, “Remnants of the Human Condition,” consists of painting, sculptures and mixed media installations that he hopes will spark a conversation on the world's current condition and bring a different consciousness to the public in these difficult times. His work is included in the Sir Elton John Photography Collection and in the High Museum of Art; as well as the private collections of Arthur Blank, Laura Seydel Turner, Kevin Willis and Ed Roland.
WCAC’s goal is to challenge the way viewers observe and interact with Atlanta’s art scene by stimulating social awareness through avant garde exhibits, shows and events. In addition to curating new shows in the coming year, WCAC is excited to welcome fourth generation art dealer and internationally acclaimed curator, Gloria Porcella to their gallery in-residence January 2017. Over the years Porcella has curated many exhibitions. Her passion for Public Art include installations in cities such as Rome, Berlin, Hannover, Gstaad, Monaco, Turin, Palermo, Brussels, Milan and the sensational first installation of the REgeneration Art Project in Syracuse, Italy during the G8 Environmental Summit to name a few. Porcella currently leads Galleria Ca’ d’Oro, one of Rome’s best known contemporary art galleries, located in Via del Babuino, Galleria Ca’ d’Oro Miami located in the Miami’s Design District and she recently opened her newest gallery in New York City in Chelsea in 2014. She continues to bring experience and expertise to the US, promoting Italian and European art with passion and enthusiasm.

Chappuis who has been a proponent of the development of Atlanta’s West Midtown and longtime art enthusiast.
