SELF CARE AND SOCIAL CONNECTIONS

It’s November and we’ve just passed daylight savings time and the hours of sunshine are getting shorter. This month takes a toll on our health and wellbeing.  Some of us are wrestling with colds, and in the past few weeks I’ve heard of more than a handful of people suffering from pneumonia. We’re busy, we’re tired, and yet we’re still living life at full-tilt. You may be making plans, or just building a Pinterest board to dream about a mid-winter vacation somewhere south. Whether that is or is not in your cards -  I’d like to propose a slight shift back to balance – encouraging myself, you, and others in our network to make a personal promise to make a little time for self-care this month.

YWCA Muskoka has several offerings that may inspire you to take a deep breath, fill the well, connect with others socially, and connect to your own heart center:

NEW! Monday evenings, join us at 5:15 pm at the YWCA in Bracebridge for drop-in YOGA with the lovely Laura McQuillan – it’s by donation and a wonderful relaxing way to de-stress.

Free Drop in sessions are now available mornings Monday through Thursday with Annie, our Adult Women’s Coordinator – whether you’re looking for someone to talk to, individualized support for life challenges or coaching for your fledgling business - please call ahead to make an appointment.

Creative expression is a great way to have fun, learn alongside other women, and drop into quiet time that takes your mind off everything else - Y’s Seniors Art and Health workshops are in full swing this fall.  November 9, Margo Gracey is teaching a watercolour painting class at the Severn Bridge Community Centre and on November 21st Painting with Nancy Hunter will take place at the YWCA in Bracebridge. These sessions are free, no previous art experience necessary, and include all materials, small group instruction, and lunch.

Finally, I’d like to share my excitement about the YW’s 12 Days of Giving. From December 1st  to 12th, YW staff and volunteers, members, and participants will be out in  our communities -  walk with us in the Bracebridge Santa Claus Parade, buy a pompom hat as part of the Raising the Roof campaign, stand with us as we commemorate December 6th in Huntsville; learn to curl at the Huntsville Curling Club’s 1st YWCA Bonspiel, and hope to see you all at YWCA Muskoka’s Open House on December 12th.
