Is it time to focus on the works-in-progress or start in on the holiday sewing? I'm giving myself till Thanksgiving to do the first, which means I prioritized during my free-time yesterday, finishing the smallest of the projects so I could mark it off the list; prepped binding on another so I can hand-stitch during t.v. time; and whipped up a backing and basted the largest of the wips, so if I have the band-width to quilt at the end of the work days this week, I'm prepared. Meanwhile, what I really want to work on is up on the design wall staring at me and encouraging me on. So yeah. Meanwhile, Sew Mama Sew's annual Handmade Holidays event has me also thinking ahead. Each day in November is a new round-up of sewn gift ideas, so consider taking a glance!

WHAT'S UP

The project I was most tickled with of late was a jumbo plus quilt I named colossus. Made with a tutorial by Leanne/she can quilt, I enjoyed the process so much I'm really anxious to make another!

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

Isn't it something how a quilt design isn't even on your radar and then all of a sudden, you notice it and can't get it out of your mind? That was me and the tumbler last week. I'm not even sure where I saw it, but it had me running (figuratively of course) to Pinterest to look for more and make a new Tumblers pin board. I gathered a few to show you how versatile this shape is.

The Tumbler Quilt by Traci/Needles and a Pen is what I'd consider the classic. Traci cut her shapes with an Accuquilt cutter, but it's also easy to cut your own. Here's a tutorial using charm squares from Shanna/Sparrow in Flight. [needlesandapen]

Just look at Felicity/Felicity Quilts' striking Burst of Colour done all in solids! [felicityquilts]
Kris/Sew Sunshine created her Lava Lamp quilt pairing colors and prints just so to give a brand new look. [kmjarchow]
Then here's a unique and fun take on the tumbler - Lindsay/Lindsay Sews' own design, Glass Half Full. [lindsaysews]

That's just a taste of what you can do with this simple block. If you've made a tumbler quilt, please do reply back with a link, so I can see! Me? I'm thinking a scrappy one might be in my future.

ON TREND

It was from Sandra/Sandra Johnson Designs that I really was exposed to sashiko. I saw her posts on Instagram about mending jeans with gorgeous stitching, admired the pair she stitched up for Hillary/
[entropyalwayswins] (pictured), and that was just the beginning. You'll really want to check out her instagram feed: [sandrajohnsondesigns].
Meanwhile, I found some links to explore if you're curious about sashiko and ways to use it.

P.S. As I'm binding up a nearly-finished quilt, I'm almost always thinking ahead to a possible photoshoot location. And the collection of photoshoots I love continues to grow....
