November update and Summer events

Another season is over...

...so bring on summer and all the Ruapehu Region has to offer outside the skiing season!
Below are a couple of ideas for the next few months and we would welcome any group or individual bringing additional summer event ideas to the table. We would be happy to contact the mail list and canvas interest on your behalf.

Also, the date for the next AGM has been set for the 5th March 2017. Although we normally hold our AGM in November, our rules state we have until 31 March. This time will allow us to let the Christmas period pass and deal with the multitude of issues before the committee, as summarised below.

SUMMER EVENTS

28th January 2017: Tussock Traverse

(Run or Walk - 6.5km, 13km or 26km)

The Tussock Traverse offers both keen trail runners and walkers, as well as people new to the excitement of off-road adventures, one of the most scenic and varied courses in New Zealand. The event course cuts across the heart of the World Heritage Tongariro National Park, starting off at the Desert Road on the Eastern side of the Park and takes in the Rangipo Desert and Waihohonu traverse track before finishing at the Chateau Tongariro in Whakapapa to the West. Registration and more info can be found at http://www.tussocktraverse.co.nz

11th February 2017: Mountain biking - 42 Traverse

The 42 Traverse is a one-way 46 km multi-use track through the Tongariro Forest Conservation Area, that gets its name from the original 'State Forest 42'. It presents challenging terrain through fantastic native forest and the awesome Canyon valley, with superb views back to the volcanoes of Tongariro National Park.
Please contact Mandy at mandyrothe.photo@gmail.com if you are interested, so we can organise transport.

25th February 2017: Ruapehu Express

Joining us for the 42 Traverse could be a good test run for  everyone who wants to bike or run the Ruapehu Express on the 25th February. A few club members have already signed up for this new adventure style event that involves a Mountain bike and a separate trail run/walk in the foothills of Mount Ruapehu. Check out the website http://www.ruapehuexpress.co.nz for information about the different trail options and to register.

April 2017

We will organise a hiking trip for a weekend in April, so watch this space for updates.

The date for the AGM has been set for the 5th March 2017.
We now have received a proposal from RAL about the removal of the Ruapehu lodge, which the club has to make a decision on by the end of March 2017. Before we can present this option to all members for a vote we are doing more research about costings and other commitments required by the club, as the proposal includes a list of tasks, that would have to be executed by the Downhill Ski Club.
We are also still in contact with interested parties that contacted us through the Trademe ad.
A more detailed update will be sent out to all club members soon.
We wish you all a fabulous summer and a safe and joyous Christmas and holiday season.
